Jackrabbits Newsletter Building on our Success Nov. 27th - Dec. 2nd

Week #6 of Marking Period 2

Greetings Jackrabbits,

I hope that you and your loved ones had the opportunity to delight in the joys of this Thanksgiving season. With a grateful heart our faculty and staff prepare for the upcoming weeks of jam packed goodness with student learning and in anticipation of December's Winter Programs, Jackrabbits All-Stars plus the recruiting of scholars for our University Interscholastic League (UIL). We are happy to be back to serve our scholars and you, with much gratitude.

Excitement for our UIL recruitment, selection and campus practice events builds for our coaches, UIL Coordinator, Mrs. Lopez and most importantly our students. If you recall, last year our Jackrabbits UIL Team represented extremely well at the district competition by placing second in our division. This year we will continue to build on our success. Please take a closer look at the flyer provided below regarding your child's interest in any of the offered events and the list of coaches on campus. Thank you in far advance for your continued support!

Next weekend, the great City of Horizon will be having it's annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023 starting at 10 a.m. The parade begins at Horizon Heights Elementary School turning right onto Darrington Rd. then left towards Horizon Blvd. Our very own Jackrabbits Cheerleading team will be showcased. Hope you can join us along the parade route with noisemakers and Jacks spirit.

Only weeks away from December which bring us to showcasing the artistic talents of your child, our students with the breath-taking Christmas programs. This year we promise to bring a bigger and brighter show. With this in mind, we have adjusted the after school tutoring to end this month. Last day for after school tutoring will be on Nov. 30th. No tutoring during the week of our winter performances.

Hot Cheetos & Cheese will be sold after school as a fundraiser for our Spring Games athletes' gear. A special thanks to our FLS, PPCD, and SLU setting educators for their assistance with the fundraising.

Thank you for entrusting our team with serving your child(ren).

At your service,

Fernando L. Miranda

School Principal

We have received several calls regarding PK3/PK4 Compulsory Attendance. Below is some clarification:

  • Compulsory Attendance applies to ALL students upon enrollment regardless of age, please see snip of FEA(legal) below. This policy is tied to truancy therefore, if the student has 10 or more unexcused absences during a 6 month period, the parent is subject to a referral to truancy court.

We are entering the lowest months for good attendance due to upper respiratory infections and flu like symptoms. Please send healthy students to school daily.

Friendly Reminder: All students from Pre-Kinder through Fifth Grades are held accountable to state compulsory attendance rules. Although pre-k and kindergarten are not mandated by the state of Texas, once enrolled in school, parents are held accountable for their child's daily attendance. Both excused and unexcused absences are still seen as days out of school. All students are responsible to make up lost instructional times. Let us know if there are any questions or concerns. We are here to assist you!
