Happy February!

Fox Families,

Happy February! February is a wonderful time to encourage kindness, both at home and at school. We will be focusing on acts of kindness around the school throughout the month and through our CKH lessons and conversations in the classroom. We loved seeing so many of you at our Second annual New Year Bash, it was such an exciting night. We made over $3000 to support our 5th graders spring events! Your support is greatly appreciated. Below are a few mid-winter reminders.

✅ Cross-walk reminders:

PLEASE make sure that as you drive to school before and after you pay attention to our crossing guards crossing our kids across busy roads. Please give them space, be patient, drive slow and be aware. We have recently had a change in the lights at Buckley and Caley. I have spoken with Arapahoe County and they are continuing to monitor the changes. They said they will be sending me information to share with the community, so we will get that sent to you ASAP. I know not everyone in the neighborhood reads this, so please remind your friends and neighbors to allow our kids and guards to cross safely, and to please BE PATIENT!.

Car Loop Reminders: HAVE PATIENCE! :)

✅ MORNING reminders: Please remember to be patient on cold, icy and snowy days (if we ever have anymore!). When we have bad weather our number of drop-offs increases and it takes much longer for us to get kids out of cars and into the building safely. PLEASE pull all the forward and try to keep the line moving. PLEASE Stay in your car and if your child needs help we can help. PLEASE do not let your child out of the car until you get past the picnic tables. If you let them out before this, it backs up the cars into the street and causes issues at the light.

✅ Parent-Teacher Conferences – Keep an eye out for sign-ups coming soon! This is a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress.

✅ Attendance Matters! – We appreciate your efforts in ensuring your child arrives at school on time and ready to learn each day. If your child is sick, please remember to report absences through the attendance line at 720-886-8795 or the app CAMPUS HUB.

Thank you for entrusting your children with us. Have a great February!

What is Kindness?

Kindness is the ability and willingness to express care and compassion for others. Kindness is a choice to use our time, talent, and resources to better the lives of others and the world through genuine acts of love, compassion, generosity, and service.

Why focus on Kindness?

  • Kindness boosts positive emotions. Acts of kindness create neural pathways that enhance feelings of well-being and the natural flow of feel-good endorphins and neurotransmitters.
  • Kindness is self-replicating. When we perform an act of kindness, it is likely to encourage others to act in a similar way.
  • Kindness reduces stress and anxiety. Kindness promotes positive relationships with other people. Anything that helps you to build bonds with other people helps decrease anxiety.

Kindness in Action:

  • Celebrate small things. Start each day with Good Things as a class. Publicly and privately affirm kind and thoughtful actions and attitudes.
  • Create opportunities for students to regularly affirm each other. Once a week, dedicate time for students to write notes of affirmation to classmates and school staff members.
  • Model Kindness. Be mindful of body language, tone, and mindset. Kindness is learned by example.

Fun Things Around Town!

One great boredom buster around town that anyone can do is paddle boarding at the Aurora Reservoir because it's great for beginners and people looking for a thrill. Also skating at Skate City is another recommendation, but if you want to get extreme you should go to the skatepark at Trails Rec Center or just swim there. Lastly, if you're bored and need something to do ASAP then you should check out the new attraction Slick City. We’ve heard from many kids and they strongly recommend it. If you haven't been to these amazing areas, then why are you still reading this?

Hop in your vehicle and zoom right over.

Good Eats Around Town!

Here are a few good restaurants around town that will soothe your taste buds! I love Lazy Dog and their white rice and orange chicken! Red Robin is great for their bottomless fries. Some delicious brunch places that everyone should try are: The Twisted Egg for its excellent eggs and its seasonal pancakes, Doug's Day Diner for pretty much everything, and Le Peep for its amazing breakfast combo. Head over now to amaze your taste buds!

Book Recommendations

1. Refugee, by Alan Gratz. It’s a really good book. Period. It gives you a taste of different refugees in tragedy-torn situations. And it isn’t just refugees from 1 time period, it’s people escaping from the Nazis, Fidel Castro, and Osama Bin Laden. This book is a great find.

2.Out of My Mind, by Sharon M. Draper

This is a very good book. It shows how to overcome challenges, make new friends, and deal with bullies. This is as sentimental as it gets. And trust me: it’s nothing short of humor. I highly recommend this book.

3. Restart, by Gordon Korman

This story has it all: laughs, cries and screams. But the best thing is that it will keep you on the edge of your seat. You know how you always want to know when you want to stop reading? This’ll have a polar opposite effect. Put this on your reading list, ASAP.

If you are planning to read some interesting books this year, be sure to add these to your list.

PE Update

Are you ready for some FOOTBALLLLLLLLLL????? In preparation for the BIG GAME, 1st – 5th graders are working on their football skills – specifically passing and receiving. Students change partners to learn how to throw and catch from different people. We also play games that focus on throwing, catching, teamwork, and strategy.

Kindergarten students have finally moved on from ALL the tag games to some focused hand-eye coordination. We are starting with our “lollipop paddles” (foam paddles) and students are learning balance, ball control, striking an object, and even attempting to volley a ball back and forth with a partner.

Just a friendly reminder that we will have Field Day in May. Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 7, 2026! This fun-filled day is a student favorite and we LOVE to have lots of parent volunteers for it! There will be more information soon!

Thank you!

Sabrina McKenna

The next unit that will carry us into January is our CLAY PROJECTS!!! Make sure to ask your students about this fun experience!

It has been such a pleasure to teach art to your student(s) this year and I hope they continue to enjoy creating!! The art projects will be coming home toward the end of the year in a portfolio of work.

STEM Update

Students will continue with the Lego Derby through December. Students will design cars out of legos to meet different categories ie; fastest, slowest. They will race their cars down a track and using the design process, make changes to improve. Even if your child’s grade does not come to STEM class this year, I will try to schedule a time over the next few weeks, for them to enjoy this activity.

PRESCHOOL PARENTS:

We had our vision screenings in preschool on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026. You will be notified if there are any concerns with your child’s vision. Otherwise assume “no news is good news.”

Asthma & Winter Weather Asthma & Winter Weather

Winter can be hard for kids with asthma. Cold air, indoor allergens, and respiratory illnesses can make breathing more difficult. Here are some simple tips to help:

Common Winter Triggers

  • Cold air can make airways tighten and cause breathing problems.
  • Indoor allergens like dust and pet dander build up when windows stay closed. This can irritate airways and cause coughing.
  • Colds and flu can make asthma worse by adding mucus and swelling in the airways.

Tips to Help Your Child Stay Healthy

  • Reduce allergens: Change air filters, clean often, and use an air purifier or humidifier (keep humidity between 30–50%).
  • Avoid irritants: Limit candles, strong scents, and sprays that can bother sensitive lungs.
  • Prevent illness: Get a flu shot, wash hands often, and keep away from people who are sick.

When to Call a Healthcare Provider

  • Your child is coughing or wheezing more than usual.
  • They need their rescue inhaler more often than normal.
  • Breathing looks hard or fast, or you see skin pulling in between their ribs when they breathe.
  • Symptoms don’t get better after using rescue medicine.
  • Anytime you are worried about their breathing or overall health.

With these easy steps, you can help your child with asthma breathe easier and stay healthy all winter long!

Please reach out if you have any concerns about your student's Asthma.

School Breakfast: School Breakfast:

User uploaded image

Parents, if your child will be joining us in the mornings for breakfast, please know we open the doors at 7:40 am. We allow all kids in for breakfast at 7:40 so they can have plenty of time too eat. Please send them to the front doors and tell them to ring the doorbell and tell us they are here for breakfast. If they arrive early, we do not let them into the cafe until 7:40. We have had many kids come in after 7:50 for breakfast and then end up being tardy to class. Also, if your child rides the bus and they need breakfast please remind them to go straight to the cafe when they get here. We do send kids to class at 7:55 so they can get to their classroom on time. Thank you for your help!
