What is the Alabama Literacy Act?
Literacy leaders from Alabaster City Schools have prepared this voiceover presentation for any parents who may not have been able to participate in Family Math and Reading Night at Creek View (Oct. 21, 2025) or Meadow View Elementary's Homework Help brunch (Nov. 13, 8:45 am). We hope you find this presentation informative. Please reach out to your child's teacher for a conference if you would like to know more about how you can support your child's reading at home.

Click the "My Child Can" icon below for a link to a google folder of resources to support your K-3 reader. (English and Spanish available) These booklets are developed by the Alabama State Department of Education as a guide to help parents understand the critical standards expected for mastery by the end of the grade level. You are your child's first teacher and are an essential partner in helping your student achieve his or her maximum potential so we hope these resources are beneficial! Each booklet contains an explanation of critical standards, links to videos for parents and students, activities and other printable crafts or games.
Additional Family & Community Support Resources
These resources are designed to support additional home-reading activities. Reading Rockets Family Adventure Packs are free thematic resources that can utilized with many books found in our Shelby County Public Library system. They can be used during the school year or the summer.
