Human Bar Graph Human Bar Graph

A quick visual and engaging strategy to determine where students are in terms of their learning targets. This strategy asks students to self-assess and share their impressions of their learning.

Materials:

Signs or designations for the graph levels of the master posted in the room.

Steps:

  1. Identify a range of levels of understanding (beginning, developing, accomplished, etc). as labels for three to four adjacent lines
  2. Have students then form a human bar graph by standing in the line that best represents their level of understanding
  3. Invite students to explain why they picked their spot to the person next to them

An exit ticket is a quick, formative assessment tool used at the end of a lesson to check students' understanding, reflect on learning, or gather feedback.

How to Use:

    • Reflective (e.g., "What confused you most?")

    • Application (e.g., "How would you apply this concept?")

  4. Inform Instruction: Address gaps or adjust future lessons based on feedback.
