Instructional Strategies to Try:
Human Bar Graph
A quick visual and engaging strategy to determine where students are in terms of their learning targets. This strategy asks students to self-assess and share their impressions of their learning.
Materials:
Signs or designations for the graph levels of the master posted in the room.
Steps:
- Identify a range of levels of understanding (beginning, developing, accomplished, etc). as labels for three to four adjacent lines
- Have students then form a human bar graph by standing in the line that best represents their level of understanding
- Invite students to explain why they picked their spot to the person next to them
