Principal Notes

CMS Families,

Your child received their i-Ready Middle of the Year Diagnostic results were sent home today, 1/17. Here’s a quick video to help you understand how we use results from the Diagnostic.

We encourage you to watch the video to gain insight into how these assessments guide our instruction and help us tailor learning experiences to meet your child’s needs.

Thank you for your continued support!

A note from the Assistant Principals

Upcoming STAAR Interim Assessments at CMS

On January 22 and January 23, students will take their reading and math interim assessments. This is the bell schedule for those days.

Interims for Biology will be taken during those classes on January 27-28.

All Interim makeups will occur after January 28, details to come.

These assessments will help us collect important check-in data to prepare students to maximize their success on STAAR state testing.

Online Practice Tools

To prepare for these online assessments, students have had the opportunity to practice the online tools for Field and Interim testing.

Students can also practice the online tools at home using the practice testing site. These are the same online tools students used last year for STAAR testing. To practice at home on this site, see instructions HERE.

Other Important Information

  • It is very important that students bring their charged GCISD-issued device and charger in order to access the secure testing app and successfully login to take the assessments. Information about how to replace a missing charger can be found HERE.

  • Please help us remind students with oral accommodations to bring their headphones.

  • On January 22-23, CMS will be a closed campus for Interims, so parents should not plan to make deliveries for lunch or other appointments at the school.

Breakfast/Lunch/Beverages at CMS

We know our Colts are hungry and thirsty throughout the day. See below for guidelines to maintain a focused learning environment and to prevent spills or messes. Thank you for your cooperation!

Breakfast/Lunch/Beverages at CMS:

  • Students are allowed to bring breakfast/coffee drinks to school in the morning but those items must be consumed in the cafeteria before heading to class.
  • Any items brought to school, dropped off, or purchased at lunch must be consumed in the cafeteria.
  • Only water is allowed in the classroom.
  • Parents may drop off fast food for students in the vestibule but we ask that this be reserved for special occasions/circumstances rather than a daily occurrence.
  • Please avoid delivering family-size portions of food from restaurants for students to share.

Librarian's Corner

Love Our School Library

We are holding a digital book drive to purchase new books for the CMS library.

The campus budget for library books will only allow us to buy 25 books this year. A lot of that will have to be used to replace books that are lost or damaged leaving very little to purchase new selections.
In order to supplement the budget we are running a digital book drive where families can purchase books for the library. The books on this list are books that the library does not have in our collection. Many are new books from popular series and other new publications. They have all been reviewed and approved to be added to GCISD libraries.
We are requesting families use this site to donate books because this is a library book vendor and these books are intended for library use. They have more durable binding that holds up to repeated use, and they are already processed for our library with protective covers and stickers so when they arrive they can go straight on the shelves.

Here is the link to purchase books LINK

Here is a flyer with more information about the book drive. LINK

AVID INFO

Focus: Time Management/Organization

Strategy: Planner/Agenda

Why: Life Skill of Task Management

Please ask your child to show you their planner for the day or week!

We are striving to teach ALL students at CMS not only to write in their planner, but to “mark it up”.

Students are being asked to make a system of strike throughs, checks, or some type of symbol to show that an assignment has been submitted. Then a circle/highlight for work that needs to be completed from the day.

Consider talking about how you keep up with your day to day tasks!

Colt Pride Awards

Every week our staff members have the opportunity to nominate one CMS Student to receive a Colt Pride Award. These students have demonstrated at least one of our Colt Pride Values: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, Excellence! Way to go COLTS!

Student Absences

Excused Absences

Each student is allowed four excused parent contact absences per semester. A parent contact absence means the parent emails Shaunelle Galaise with the reason for the student's absence.

After the first four excused absences, students are allowed five unexcused absences per semester. We highly encourage students to provide a doctor’s note when visiting a healthcare provider, as this can help document the absence as excused.

Out-of-Town Travel

Absences due to out-of-town travel are considered unexcused. However, we still ask that you notify us in advance so we are aware of your student's absence.

Contact Information

For any questions or concerns, please contact Shaunelle Galaise at:

  • Email: shaunelle.galaise@gcisd.net
  • Phone: 817-305-4904

Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring accurate attendance records.
