TKES Reminder
Now that the year is in full swing, our TKES evaluation process will begin. The first thing you need to do is complete the TKES Orientation and self-assessment in the platform. For those who are new, you access this through IC. Select SLDS from the menu and then look for the TKES tab in the page that opens. Please ask a teammate to walk you through this if you need help.
I encourage you to pay attention during the orientation video as it outlines how you will be evaluated this year. The official deadline for this is September 6. Because this is a quick turnaround with our communication, we will give you a full week if you need it and will extend the deadline to September 10. Please do not miss this deadline. We will hold our TKES pre-conference at our September 17 staff meeting. Please make sure you are present for this meeting.
A document outlining all the TKES deadlines for the year is attached.
Due by September 10:
- TKES Orientation (in the TKES Platform)
- TKES Self-Assessment
Please make sure you get green checks for both of these. This indicates they have been completed.
Career Day Date Change
Career Day has been confirmed for March 19. This is a change from the previously published date. Just FYI
Staff Spotlight
Amy Schroder does an exceptional job running the front office at our school. Her professionalism, patience, and efficiency create a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. Whether managing daily operations, handling parent inquiries, or supporting the administrative team, Amy consistently demonstrates grace under pressure. Her attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities make her an invaluable part of our team. She is truly the master of “stuff and things” in the front office 😊.

Staff Stock Market Game
For any faculty & staff interested in learning more about investing in the stock market, Mr. Chris Lee will be sponsoring an adult version of the Stock Market Game this year, running parallel to the project he runs with his students. The kickoff will be after Labor Day, with the official start date at the end of the month. If the idea of using $100,000 in "Other People's Money" to learn how to invest and build wealth is an incentive, please see or email Chris Lee (413) to join.

Attendance Update
ALL IN ON ATTENDANCE – Building Strong Routines
Crabapple Middle School: In It to Win It!
- September is Attendance Awareness Month Across FCS. Below are some facts about attendance and staff reminders of how we can support a culture of attendance.
- September is the perfect time to set consistent morning and bedtime routines that make school attendance a natural habit. Students who start the year strong are more likely to maintain excellent attendance all year long.
- Students who miss fewer than 5 days in the first semester are 3 times more likely to stay on track in reading and math.
- Accurate Daily Attendance: By taking accurate attendance in each class period this sets a level of consistency among school staff, and creates an opportunity to discuss with parents the importance of consistent attendance and the impact on academics and school connection.
Clubs Update
- Clubs have officially begun to meet before (7:45 am-8:25 am M-F) and after school (4:20 pm-5:30 pm M-Th).
- Club sponsors are required to submit a "Set-Up Form" for all meeting dates/times. This form is available in the front office. This information will be entered into our master calendar.
- Sponsors will be notified via email if a stipend has been granted.
- A comprehensive list of school clubs will be posted on the CMS website soon.
Media Center Update
- Media Center CLOSED Friday, 9/12: Mrs. Salvatore will be out of the building for a training, so the MC will be closed to students for the day. Please plan accordingly – no loaners or desktops will be available. Mr. Lee will be available during normal tech hours.
- The AI Infused Classroom Book:
- We received a copy of this book for teachers and staff to check out. I have placed it in the Professional collection (in the copy room). If you would like to check it, or any of the books in the Professional collection, out just bring it to me at the circulation desk.
- Digital Citizenship:
- Teacher Requirements (due Oct 1st): CMS Digital Citizenship TEACHER REQUIREMENTS 2025-2026.docx
- Check out the video from Grade Level last week if you missed it. There are important instructions for the lessons given to students in homeroom this year.
- Be sure to follow the lesson plans linked in the homeroom plans the next few weeks (all due by Oct 1st).
- September Programming:
- Contest: september superhero logo contest 25.docx

Orchestra Update
- Sixth Grade Orchestra 'Buddy Concert' on Thursday, September 25th 6pm- 6:30pm in the CMS Gym.
- Every child is supposed to sit with a parent or grandparent or mentor on stage. Kids may ask you to be a mentor if they are unable to secure a parent.
- Thank you for your support of our 43 new Orchestra students!
SSS Update
This week’s SSS lesson is about Learning Skills. It covers getting organized, study strategies, strategies for having an open mindset about your own learning. It pushes them to pursue being a lifelong learner. Just the tone we want our students to have at the beginning of the year! SSS lessons are designed to provide simple instruction on skills needed for success in specific areas with a follow-through of practice and deeper connections. Be sure to “Present” through all 3 portions of the lesson. Let me know if you have any trouble with the platform.

Grading Timeline
Canvas
Canvas Reminders:
All grades MUST go in Canvas; no grades or assignments should be entered directly into Infinite Campus.
Some great tips:
- Turn on Nightly Sync:
- Grade sync-Utilities-flip switch for nightly sync
- Having Sync issues? Try a remaster!
Check out the visual instructions for both of those tips here as needed. Canvas Quick Tips.pptx
Teachers with High School Courses: you need to change the weights of your Majors from 50% to 55%, and minors from 40% to 35% in Canvas. See this link for instructions.
Teachers cannot add other teachers to courses. Rostered co-teachers will be automatically added.
If you need a new sandbox or someone added to an existing sandbox, please fill out the form with the sandbox URL and the email addresses of the individuals you want to add.
If you have a club or team that you want a course for, please fill out the form.
If you want to know more about Canvas tips/tricks/features, register for the FCS Canvas Resources Course. New modules are continually being added. If you weren’t able to attend a PD session, chances are it was recorded and included in this course. To register, use this link: https://fultonschools.instructure.com/enroll/FM3L6L
