The Panther Paw - Edition #11
October 19, 2026
Great job, JCMS!
We would like to thank our students for a successful first few days of implementing our new OpenGate Weapons Detection System! Our Panthers have done a great job adjusting to the new procedures and are already developing a smooth and efficient morning routine. We appreciate their cooperation, patience, and commitment to keeping our school safe!
As a reminder, when approaching the detectors, students should have their Chromebooks ready to hand to a staff member, along with any metal glasses cases or large binders. These are the only items that need to be handed over before walking through the detectors. If the system alerts as a student passes through, staff will conduct a quick check of the student's belongings. Once cleared, the student may proceed to class.
Thank you again to our students and staff for helping make this transition a success. By working together and following these simple procedures, we can continue to ensure a safe, welcoming, and efficient start to each school day.
📢 8th Grade Reminder: PSAT Testing & Manufacturing Day – Wednesday, October 21
Wednesday, October 21, 2026, will be a busy and important day for our JCMS 8th-grade students! All 8th graders will participate in two important activities: PSAT 8/9 Testing and Manufacturing Day.
To ensure a successful day, please review the schedule and student expectations below.
📝 PSAT 8/9 Testing
All 8th-grade students will complete the PSAT 8/9 during the school day. This assessment provides valuable information about students' academic strengths and areas for growth while helping prepare them for high school and future SAT testing.
Student Expectations for Testing:
Arrive at school on time and ready to test.
Get a good night's sleep and eat a healthy, protein-packed breakfast.
Bring your fully charged Chromebook.
Follow all testing directions and remain focused throughout the assessment.
Give your best effort!
🏭 Manufacturing Day
Students will also participate in Manufacturing Day, sponsored by the Jennings County Economic Development Center. During this experience, students will visit a local manufacturing facility and Jennings County High School to explore career opportunities in manufacturing and learn more about potential pathways after middle school.
Student Expectations for Manufacturing Day:
Dress appropriately: Students must wear long pants, long sleeves, and tennis shoes to participate in the facility tour.
Follow all safety instructions provided by school staff and facility representatives.
Remain with your assigned group and follow directions throughout the trip.
Demonstrate respectful and responsible behavior while representing JCMS.
📅 Important Schedule Reminder:
Both PSAT testing and Manufacturing Day will take place on Wednesday, October 21. Students should arrive at school prepared for both activities, including having their Chromebook charged and wearing the required clothing for the manufacturing facility tour.
Students will follow the schedule and directions provided by their teachers and school staff for testing and field trip rotations.
We appreciate the cooperation of our students and families in helping make this a successful day of academic preparation and career exploration!
