March 2026 Family Newsletter
Letter from Mrs. Murphy
Dear OES families,
February flew by fast and I cannot believe we are already heading into March. Before we look ahead, I want to take a moment to celebrate how amazing our OES students are. Every day I see them demonstrating kindness, curiosity, and a genuine love for learning that makes our school a wonderful place to be.
Please join me in recognizing and congratulating Mrs. Hay for being named our Teacher of the Year. We are so proud of her dedication to our students and our school community.
This month holds many fun events and important pieces of information where we need your support. Please note the following highlights found in this newsletter:
DA/OES Spring Fair on March 7th which is our biggest event of the year- We need volunteers! See the links in the OES Press to sign-up!
Capstone ceremony on March 18th - All OES families are welcome!
MSTEP resources and ways you can prepare with your child at home
While Capstone is a fifth grade project, we invite everyone to attend the ceremony. Formerly known as exhibition, Capstone is one of the most memorable experiences for our students. If you have a third or fourth grader, this is a great opportunity to see the process in action.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Murphy

March Tate Trait
Being trustworthy means that a student is honest, reliable, and follows through on their commitments to peers and teachers alike. Throughout the month, our educators will highlight the importance of integrity and building strong foundations of character within our school community.
2025-26 OES Teacher of the Year! Congratulations, Mrs. Hay!
We are incredibly proud to recognize Mrs. Hay for her unwavering dedication and the profound impact she makes on her students every single day. Whether she is inspiring a love of learning in the classroom or showing her incredible school spirit, Mrs. Hay embodies the sense of belonging in our school community. Her passion for teaching and her genuine care for every child who walks through her door make her truly deserving of this honor.
🎒 Preparing for M-STEP
This April, OES students in grades 3–5 will participate in the M-STEP. While specific dates are coming soon, here is some information to help your child feel confident and prepared.
Why Practice Matters The M-STEP is an online assessment using "technology-enhanced" tools like drag-and-drop and highlighting. Practicing ahead of time ensures students can focus their "brain power" on the actual math and reading problems rather than the computer interface.
💻 How to Help at Home While we are practicing at school, extra "reps" at home significantly reduce test anxiety. You can explore the platform and sample questions together using these links:
M-STEP Online Tools Training (OTT) – Practice using the actual testing interface.
MDE Online Practice – Subject-specific prep for ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
M-STEP "Starting Smarter" Website – Family-friendly tips and sample questions.
🌟 Quick Tips for Success
Stay Positive: Treat this as a chance for them to show what they know.
Focus on Effort: Remind them the goal is simply to do their best.
Prioritize Routine: A good night’s sleep and a solid breakfast are the best "test prep."
Thank you for partnering in your child’s education. We are so proud of their hard work!
