Wright Weekly #10

Dear Wright Community,

Life sometimes presents unexpected opportunities at unexpected times. Such has been the case recently, as I have been presented with a leadership opportunity at the district office. As of this coming week, I will be serving our amazing district of Harlandale as a Bilingual Coordinator. I am excited about this new chapter, as dual language education is my passion and area of expertise. Although I look forward to the future and am grateful for this opportunity, this transition is bittersweet. Even in the short time that I was your principal, I was privileged to have experienced the love and support of our amazing students, staff and community, and fostered relationships that I will always treasure. Being your principal has been an honor, and Wright Elementary will forever hold a special place in my heart. I thank you for your support during my time here, and wish all of you nothing but the best. And I leave you in the more than capable hands of your new principal, Ms. Desiree Barrera-Smith, whom I know all of you will also support, and come to know and love ¡Hasta pronto, as I hope to see everyone at our Fall Carnival this Friday 10/17!

Estimada comunidada de Wright Elementary,

La vida a veces presenta oportunidades inesperadas en momentos inesperados. Así ha sido recientemente, ya que se me ha presentado una oportunidad de liderazgo en la oficina central del distrito. A partir de esta próxima semana, serviré a nuestro maravilloso distrito de Harlandale como Coordinadora Bilingüe. Estoy muy emocionada con esta nueva etapa, ya que la educación bilingüe es mi pasión y mi especialidad. Si bien estoy entusiasmada con el futuro y agradecida por esta gran oportunidad, en honestidad, la transición es agridulce. Incluso durante el corto tiempo que fui su directora, tuve el privilegio de recibir el amor y el apoyo de nuestros increíbles estudiantes, personal y comunidad, y de cultivar relaciones que siempre atesoraré. La Escuela Primaria Wright siempre tendrá un lugar especial en mi corazón. Ser su directora ha sido un honor. Les agradezco su apoyo durante mi tiempo aquí y les deseo lo mejor. Y los dejo en las mas que capaces manos de su nueva directora, Ms. Desiree Barrera-Smith, a quien se que van apollar y llegar a querer. ¡Hasta pronto, ya que espero verlos a todos durante nuestro Carnaval de otoño este viernes 10/17!

Monday, October 13, is a school holiday for students and staff. There is no school on Monday 10/13. Enjoy the three day weekend everyone!

Fall Carnival will be on Friday, October 17! More info to come from your child's teacher.

Trunk-or-Treat Literacy Night will take place on Wednesday, October 29, here at Wright Elementary, from 5:00-6:30 PM. Each grade level team will share strategies and easy, fun activities you can do at home with students to support the development of their literacy skills. Students will also get candy after completing each activity! Bring your trick-or-treat bag or bucket, and come enjoy a night of learning, treats and community!

Noche de lectoescritura de Trunk-or-Treat Se llevará a cabo el miércoles, 29 de octubre aquí en Wright Elementary, de 5:00 a 6:30 p.m. Cada equipo de grado compartirá estrategias y actividades fáciles y divertidas que pueden hacer en casa con sus estudiantes para apoyar el desarrollo de sus habilidades de lectoescritura. ¡También recibirán dulces al completar cada actividad! Friday, October 31, will be Book Character Dress-up Day! NO scary, bloody or gory costumes please, and no face coverings/masks. Costumes should be connected to a character in a children' s book.

Students will enter the school via designated doorways, by grade level. Please see the document and map linked to the bus image. There will be staff on duty at each entry way, as well as at designated waiting areas inside the school, until it’s time to enter the classroom with their teachers at 7:40. All gates and doors close at 7:45 as the the instructional day commences at this time.

New during lunch this school year! Students will enter an assigned pin number when they pick up their lunch from the cafeteria. Also, remember that we are a closed campus, so no visitors are allowed during lunch times. Thank you for your support as we prioritize student safety.

Remember to please be sure to display your car tag visibly in your windshield, so that staff in the car line can easily identify your child's name, and expedite their retrieval from inside the school. We want to keep that carline moving and get everyone home as safely and as soon as possible. If you do not have your car tag, you will have to park, and come into the school, and provide identification to sign your child out for dismissal.

Safety is a priority here at Wright Elementary. For this reason, walk-up pick up is not permitted through the K-1 parking lot on White St. at dismissal. Heavy pedestrian traffic is a concern in the K-1 dismissal area, as vehicles are coming in and out of this parking lot, and there is not a paved area on which pedestrians can safely walk with small children. Starting Monday 9/29, K-1 walkers will be dismissed from the gate on Trenton, outside the library exit door. Please be sure to present your color coded student name card to the teacher on duty when picking up your child. If you do not have a pick-up card with you at dismissal, please visit our front office to sign out your child. Picture ID will be required. If you need a student name card for pick up, please reach out to your child's teacher , or visit our front office to obtain one. Additionally, please remain in the carline, and avoid parking and walking up to the school so as to minimize pedestrian traffic around the school and maximize safety for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our Little Indians.

La seguridad es nuestra prioridad en la Escuela Primaria Wright.
