Principal's Message

Hello Springwater Community,

We are approaching the 12-week grading period! Conferences are right around the corner and a great opportunity to get to know your student's teachers while getting additional information on your student's academic progress. Conference will be held the evening of Tuesday, November 20th and the morning of Wednesday, November 21st. Conferences are arena style: all of the teachers will be gathered in the Commons and you can choose which teachers you visit, in the order of your preference. Wednesday morning is the least busy time to connect with teachers. We do have a number of part-time staff who will be available only for select times during the conference schedule. Please see the schedule below for more information and to confirm all of your student's teachers will be present during your visit.

Our two volleyball teams continue to play weekly games at Reynolds Middle School. If you haven't made it to a game, they are really fun and exciting to watch (and the spectators have great Titan spirit)! Games occur at 4 or 5pm. See the specific dates and times in this issue.

Looking back on the month of October, STHS journalism students visited the University of Oregon for Fall Media Day, attending valuable workshops on all things media. Students with 90% or higher attendance also had the opportunity to attend Portland Center Stage's A Life. Mr. Lurie's Government classes headed down to the Multnomah County Courthouse to talk with judges and lawyers, observe court proceedings, and learn about our legal system. We look forward to additional engaging community learning opportunities in the future.

I hope to see you at our conferences later this month! As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s teachers, the main office, or me by phone or email if you have questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Ryan Blaszak

Senior Parents Needed

Senior Parties are a wonderful, memorable way to celebrate students' graduation from high school. These events are organized by senior parents. Springwater has NEVER had a Senior Party for our graduates. This year we have a senior parent, Heidi Gatlin, who is interested in putting one together. BUT SHE NEEDS YOUR HELP!! If you are interested in helping, please contact Heidi at heidi.gatlin@gmail.com

Basketball cancelled for this year

After talking with students and researching options, we have made the difficult decision to cancel basketball for the 18-19 season. The past several years we have been fortunate to utilize Hogan Cedar's gym for our practices. This year Hogan Cedars has an expanded after-school program and their gym is unavailable. We have worked with interested students the past several weeks to connect them to their neighborhood school to participate in winter sports for the 18-19 school year. We will continue to explore options next year and look forward to the construction of a new covered outside basketball area targeted to begin in summer 2019 (thanks to the passage of the Bond).

Core Values Project

This fall, staff and students have embarked on a series of activities and discussions regarding the values and character traits necessary for success in school and life. The goal of the project is to identify a shared list of traits (or core values) that is embraced by staff and students, thereby strengthening the Springwater community and improving the chances of success for each of our to-be graduates. Some examples students have discussed include: perseverance, self-reflection, independence, loyalty, and dependability. Student leadership has spear-headed this endeavor and we look forward to sharing the culmination of the work with you later this school year.

STHS Student Course Progress Guide

Student Course Progress Guide is here: As mentioned above, we have finalized a quick reference guide that aims to answer the critically important (but often confusing) question: Where and how do I find information about my student’s academic progress? For example, when should a parent look in Synergy ParentVue/StudentVue and when is it best to look in Google Classroom? The guide below will help point you in the right direction so you can efficiently and accurately stay on top of grades and assignments. The guide also includes links to all course syllabi.
