A message from our Headteacher: Achieve, Belong and Thrive
This summer, I read a debut novel by Lucy Steeds called "The Artist". Set in the shadows of the first world war, it follows the fortunes of two young people who work for a famous impressionist painter in Provence. At one point in the novel, the central female protagonist expresses a desire to follow the master to the Academie of Arts and is told, rather brutally, by the artist, "The Academie is not for the likes of you .. it is only men who are allowed to study at the Academie."
It was a prompt reminder to me about how lucky we are to have been afforded a great education and how very fortunate our students are to have teachers who strive relentlessly to flatten every barrier to success for all our students. Whatever their challenges, background or personal adversities; it is this school's top priority to be inclusive and provide aspiration for all our young people. A great education gives you significant valuable prizes, which I still value beyond measure: space and time for further study and choices.
During the summer, our A level students received their golden tickets to future pathways, and it was so exciting watching them realise the gravitas of the certificate they clutched in their hands with glee. One of the first questions they are often asked is "Where are you going next?" What destination did that gift of education give you a golden ticket for? Results Days are the most fulfilling days of our professional lives, listening to their excited responses and to share some of the uplifting stories of the day. Once again, we celebrated beating World Averages this year, showing how a comprehensive school, with hugely committed staff and students, can deliver a world class education.
A week later, our Year 11 received their GCSE results; teachers and students beamed together as another year of spectacular Anglo results emerged from those special envelopes. This year’s results, (whilst still under the checking and validation processes) look to have smashed the national and regional averages once again. We are so proud of this year’s achievements and so excited to see so many of our Year 11 joining our outstanding sixth form next year to pursue one of our 4 pathways to amazing futures beyond.
It is such a privilege to be a teacher; to see children's’ lives change in your hands, to see all the hard work bring fulfilment and to see success bring such joy! Congratulations to all our newly qualified students!

Dropping Off and Picking Up
Due to the extensive building work and vehicles that are currently on school site, it is imperitive that Willow Green is kept clear of extra unnecessary traffic, this is to ensure the safety of students and staff. Please could all parents and carers drop off and pick up away from the school site using the High Street and New Road.
Yondr Pouches
A reminder that the use of Yondr pouches will be implemented from the start of term.
From this date, students in Years 7 to 11 will not be permitted to have a mobile phone on site unless it is secured in a Yondr pouch. We greatly appreciate your support in helping us introduce this important change successfully and consistently.
To ensure a smooth start to the term, we respectfully ask parents to ensure that their child has purchased a Yondr pouch before returning to school. This will help avoid situations where students need to be challenged regarding non-compliance from their first day back.
If you have not yet purchased a Yondr pouch, please do so via ParentPay as soon as possible. Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a focused and positive learning environment for all students.
Uniform
If you have not already done so, please check that your child’s school uniform, including their school shoes, fits correctly before the start of term. We look forward to welcoming students back for a smart and positive start to the year, with all students in Years 7 to 11 attending in full school uniform. Please note that polo shirts are not permitted during the Autumn Term.
As outlined in our Uniform Policy, nails and eyelashes must be natural. Artificial nails, gel nails, nail accessories, eyelash extensions, and false eyelashes are not permitted.
Students may wear one pair of small stud earrings only. No other jewellery should be worn in school. Please ensure that students do not attend school wearing hoop earrings or multiple earrings in each ear.
As with the introduction of Yondr pouches, we greatly appreciate your support in ensuring that students return to school fully prepared and in compliance with our expectations. Your assistance will help us welcome students back positively and allow them to make a strong start to the new term without the need for unnecessary uniform-related reminders.
Reminder - Student Details
Please could you check through Arbor to ensure that all contact details are correct on our system, including email addresses and emergency telephone numbers. Medical details should also be checked, including allergens. It is important that our system is up to date with the correct medical information.
Summer School 2026
During August, over 150 new year 7 students spent time at our summer school taking part of a variety of activities, getting familiar with our setting and making new friends. We had a variety of teachers, Sixth Form students and external providers join us to teach students how to play samba, solve historical mysteries, create fabulous animal masks and develop new circus skills. Summer school has become a crucial step in the transition process, helping to build necessary resilience for their big first day.
Mr Mitchell, Year 7 leader, said: "It has been a privilege watching them have such an exciting time, and I am particularly impressed by their maturity and kindness towards one another. I am also deeply thankful for our teachers and Sixth Form students who volunteered much of their well-earned summer holiday to make this summer school an unforgettable experience. Summer school has been a roaring success, and we are very excited to see all of our Year 7s for their first day on Thursday 3rd September."
Over the summer, Mr Kamper had the opportunity to visit Centro Educacional Luís de Camões, a secondary school in Freguesía, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He was given a tour of the school, including a music lesson and English lesson, and then gave a lesson to a variety of students on British school life and the university system.
For Mr Kamper, it was a wonderful opportunity to discover more about education on the other side of the world and to build connections with other educators. The most striking thing (other than the quality of the volleyball team and the on-site pool, a necessity in Brazil!) was the students' enthusiasm for learning and their ambition to succeed.
