Distraction Free Schools
New York State’s “Distraction-Free Schools” Law (S.3006 / A.3006) prohibits the use of internet enabled devices during the school day including during instructional time, passing periods, and lunch. These devices include but are not limited to cell phones, tablets, smartwatches, gaming systems, and ear buds. Students are encouraged to leave all personal electronic devices at home as the district is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged devices. If students choose to bring an electronic device to school it must be powered off and remain secured in their school issued locker for the duration of the day. Students will not be permitted to access their locker during class periods and should be prepared for each class prior to arriving. Any student caught in possession of an electronic device during the school day will need to bring it to the office where it will be stored until a parent or guardian is able to retrieve it. Students who refuse to turn in a device when asked will be considered insubordinate and disciplined according to the school’s Code of Conduct. Students will also be subject to disciplinary action according to the discipline matrix outlined in our student handbook which can be accessed at the following link. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cMch8Jr2RF78XM7xat8FdcfG0S9FAOAqw8ESDW4uPkk/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.k587c2a0hojp
