MN Supreme Court Visit on THURSDAY
THURSDAY: MN Supreme court visits RWHS
Dear Red Wing High School families, staff, students, and community members,
We are excited to share that Red Wing High School has been selected to host the Minnesota Supreme Court for oral arguments on Thursday, May 7.
As part of the Court’s statewide outreach efforts, the justices will convene in our auditorium to hear a real case: Randy Dale Sixta v. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. This unique event provides our students with a rare, firsthand opportunity to observe the judicial process in action and deepen their understanding of our legal system.
This experience directly supports Minnesota Social Studies standards in Citizenship and Government by allowing students to observe the judicial branch in action, evaluate legal arguments, and engage in civic discourse. It also advances inquiry-based learning and disciplinary literacy skills by exposing students to real-world legal reasoning, evidence evaluation, and complex text analysis.
Following the oral arguments, students will participate in a question-and-answer session with the justices, offering further insight into the work of the Court and the role of the judiciary in our democracy.
We are honored to host this meaningful learning experience and to welcome distinguished members of the Minnesota Judicial Branch to our school community. Events like this align directly with our commitment to providing authentic, real-world learning opportunities for our students.
This experience strongly supports our Portrait of a Graduate:
- Critical thinking
- Communication
- Civic engagement
- Ethical reasoning
A livestream of the oral arguments will be available, and we will share the viewing link with our community as it becomes available.
Thank you for your continued support as we bring impactful educational experiences to Red Wing High School.
Sincerely,
Joshua Fuchs
Principal, Red Wing High School

Community Opportunities for Students
City Government Opportunities for Students
High-school-age students can now take an even more active role in their local government. City Council approved last night to allow 9th- through 12th-graders to serve as voting members on four City advisory commissions. The Arts & Culture Commission, Human Rights Commission, Sister Cities Commission, and Sustainability Commission can each have one voting student member, if the student is approved, just like other nominees. Each of the four advisory commissions has at least one vacancy, so if you know a student looking to grow their civic involvement, encourage them to apply for a voting seat today. And remember, ALL boards and commissions welcome advisory non-voting student members anytime, and those seats are always available!
Still Hiring: Colvill Pool
The Colvill Aquatic Center is also still looking for more lifeguards, so if you or someone you know wants to spend their summer poolside – and get paid for it – go ahead and apply today.
