Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 24th April 2026
Music and Arts Week
Music and Arts Week this week was an exciting celebration of creativity across the school, showcasing the wonderful and diverse talents of our pupils.
On Tuesday, Dr Krippner, Musical Director from the Cathedral, spoke to pupils in assembly about the work of the Cathedral choir. He led a singing session and then held auditions for the Cathedral choir, offering a wonderful opportunity for those interested in choral music.
Wednesday’s open afternoon was very well attended, with families and friends enjoying the impressive range of artwork displayed in our galleries and the array of musical talent demonstrated by our pupils. Visitors had the opportunity to watch musical performances in the classrooms featuring all pupils from Nursery to Year 6, as well as listening to the brass group and choir perform in the library. Individual pupils performed on a wide range of instruments, such as the oboe, flute, trumpet and piano, showing great confidence and talent. Finally, our School’s Out group performed their showdance to round off the afternoon. Thank you to all visitors, performers and helpers, and we are grateful for all the donations to our fundraising appeal. We would welcome any comments you have about this new addition to our school calendar – please add them to our Google feedback form here: https://forms.gle/ZwfwFGk7BSf3Pcs89
On Thursday and Friday, we have been delighted to welcome visiting artists into school who worked closely with pupils, enriching their creative experience. Our thanks go to Bradley Bingham, Miss Mence, Miss Okey and Niamh Deighton for sharing their expertise and inspiring our young artists.
It has been a memorable week that celebrated the arts in all their forms and highlighted the creativity within our school community. Well done to all!
Year 5 at Bewerley Park
On Tuesday, Year 5 went to Bewerley Park. We had an amazing time! In groups of 10, we went to 2 different gorges and did some river walking – which was very fun but extremely cold! In the afternoon, we took part in an orienteering event with digital dibbers to log the time it took to get to each check point. We had such a brilliant day, albeit a little bit soggy!
Guide Dogs Visit Year 3
On Monday, Year 3 had a very special visit from the Guide Dog Association. It was humbling to hear how much these guide dogs meant to their owners and how the dogs provided people who have lost / partially lost their sight with ways to get out of their house and feel confident in being independent.
All the children showed respect and empathy throughout and asked some thoughtful questions. At the end of the talk, they were allowed to give the dogs a little pet which was a great treat!
