RMS Monday Message
January 15th, 2024
There is no school today, as our country pauses to remember Martin Luther King, Jr. including his words and legacy to remind us what is possible in life and how we should treat others.
School will reopen back in session tomorrow at our normal time.
The end of Quarter 2 is on Friday, January 26, 2024. Click the button below to access Faculty and Staff Extra Help Times to schedule a time to meet with a teacher to get some extra support!
We hope that the start to your New Year has been a healthy and happy one!

News from our World Language Department
1. Congratulations to RMS 7th grader Davia, who is one of three runners-up in the Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Essay Contest which is sponsored by Optimum, Altice USA, Inc., and Univision Management Co. An award presentation was held on January 10 at RMS and Davia was presented with her award, a brand new iPad. Her essay was chosen from among hundreds of middle school student essays from the tri-state area of New York, Connecticut and New Jersey answering the prompt: Describe a person, group of people or experience that has helped you to connect to Hispanic culture. Congratulations to Davia!
2. On Friday, January 5th many RMS Spanish students experienced a special guest performance by Christine Alicea, who is a local woman who dances Bomba. Bomba is a traditional dance of the Afro-Latino people of Puerto Rico. She shared her personal connection to the dance and music, performed for us and got several students up and dancing!
Congratulations!
Congratulations to 7th grader Suvi who was the RMS winner of the Beacon Sloop Club and Southern Dutchess Coalition Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest. This is the 10th year that this contest has been running. The MLK Day Essay Quote for this year is: “Only love can overcome hatred, bitterness, and fear. I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” The essay should be written about what was happening in America for Dr. King to say this. Explain what you feel he meant and what it might mean to you. How do you feel this may affect your own life as well.
Congrats, Suvi!
