Staying Healthy at School
Important Information on Common Illnesses in School-Age Children
School-age children are susceptible to various common illnesses.
We encourage you to take a moment to review this Information Letter on Common Illnesses for valuable guidance.
To help prevent these illnesses, please remind your child to practice healthy habits, including:
Washing hands frequently.
Staying well-hydrated.
Avoiding the sharing of personal items, food, or drinks.
Refraining from touching their eyes.
Covering their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter as we work together to keep our students healthy and safe.

Winter Safety Reminder: Keeping Students Safe Every Day
As we continue through the final weeks of winter, student safety remains a top priority. Changing weather conditions can create additional hazards, so we appreciate your partnership in helping keep all students safe at school.
Please review these important winter safety reminders:
-
Use caution on snow and ice: Students are reminded to walk carefully, avoid running on icy surfaces, and follow staff directions during arrival, dismissal, and recess.
-
Play safely during recess: Throwing snow or ice is not permitted. Students should use designated play areas and follow playground expectations.
-
Dress for changing weather: Mornings can be cold and afternoons warmer. Dressing in layers helps students stay comfortable throughout the day.
-
Arrival and dismissal safety: Please allow extra time during snowy or icy conditions and be mindful of traffic flow and pedestrian safety in school zones.
-
Stay home when sick: If your child is not feeling well, keeping them home helps prevent the spread of illness and keeps everyone safer.
By working together, we can ensure a safe, smooth end to the winter season and a positive learning environment for all students.
Find your Lost Items!
Our Lost & Found is once again overflowing - now with winter items! We have a box of gloves/mittens, a box of hats, countless coats and pants, as well as our usual items! Please have your student check and collect their items. We want everyone to be prepared with all your winter gear.
Health Blurb: Staying Well This Season
Dear Ivy Families!
With the cooler weather and illnesses increasing, we want to remind you that all medication, including over-the-counter items such as cough drops and throat lozenges, must be brought to school by a parent or guardian and stored in the health office. A medication authorization form must also be completed by a doctor for each medication (linked here).
Holiday Lights Recycling Drive
Have broken or unwanted string lights? The Environmental PTA Committee invites you to recycle them! Bring your string lights to Ivy Hill Elementary School and drop them in the collection bin near the front office — we’ll recycle them for you.

Every day that your child is not in school, is late or is leaving early the office needs to know!! There are three ways to notify us and they are available 24 hours a day!
1. Our GOOGLE FORM - just write in the information - you don't have to talk to anyone!
2. Our ATTENDANCE HOT LINE - Just call 847-398-4275 (the main number) and press 1 - leave us a message.
3. Email office - ihoffice@sd25.org
If you don't notify us, we are required to call you so PLEASE let us know if your child is absent, late or leaving early!!
DISMISSALS
We want every student to get home safely and smoothly, and your help makes a big difference! Dismissal is at 3:35 p.m. — please plan to pick up walkers at that time.
If your child’s usual dismissal plans change—for example, being picked up by someone different, walking home instead of taking the bus, or any other change—in addition to emailing your child’s teacher, please also email the school office at ihoffice@sd25.org. The earlier in the day that we know, the easier it is on our end.
Thank you for keeping us in the loop! With your support, dismissal can be calm, organized, and as joyful as the start of the day.
Monday, January 19th 2026
We observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day in school to honor his work for equality and justice. Martin Luther King Jr. dedicated his life to peace, equality, and kindness. He believed that everyone can make a difference in the world. He said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, “What are you doing for others?”’ His words remind us to help one another and stand up for what is right. We celebrate his dream and try to follow his example every day.
We’d love to hear from you!
