Classic Orchard & Farm Days

  • Megafarm Fall Festivals: Places like Liberty Ridge Farm (Schaghticoke) or Kelder’s Farm (Kerhonkson) go way beyond apple picking. Expect giant corn mazes, jumping pillows, pig races, tractor rides, and cider donuts fresh out of the fryer.

  • Apple Picking & Cider Pressing: Head to classic spots like Hurds Family Farm (Modena) or Beak & Skiff (Lafayette/Syracuse area) to let kids fill their own bags with Honeycrisps or Snapdragons and try fresh apple cider.

  • Sunnyside Gardens (Saratoga Springs): Offers a lighter, low-stress day out with ride-on miniature trains, pumpkin patches, tractor-pulled hayrides, and a monarch butterfly room.

    Hikes with Big Views

  • Coney Mountain: (1.8 miles round-trip | Easy) Located just north of town on Route 30. It features a smooth, gradual incline winding up to a bare, 360-degree open rock summit. It is widely considered the best "bang-for-your-buck" view in the central Adirondacks.
  • Goodman Mountain: (3.4 miles round-trip | Easy to Moderate) Located next to Coney Mountain, this trail follows an old paved road at first before turning onto a gentle dirt path. The summit overlooks Tupper Lake and the surrounding wilderness.

  • Buttermilk Falls: (Under 0.5 miles round-trip | Very Easy) Located right off North Point Road on the Raquette River. It offers a quick, accessible boardwalk path down to roaring rapids and wide cascades—ideal for young kids or a picnic break.

  • Catlin Bay via Northville-Placid Trail: (2.4 miles round-trip | Easy) Pick up the trail off Tarbell Road. The path meanders gently through hemlock groves along Long Lake's shore, ending at a picturesque lean-to right on Catlin Bay.

  • Upper Sargent Pond: (2.4 miles round-trip | Easy) Accessible off North Point Road. A gentle, shaded forest walk leads to a quiet, secluded pond with a waterfront lean-to—great for a picnic or dipping toes in the water.
