An Eighth Grade Exchange Edition #9
👋 Hello Parents and Guardians!
Hello Nichols Families,
As we approach Fall Break and Thanksgiving, I want to share some thoughts about gratitude. Being thankful isn't just about saying "thank you" – it's a powerful mindset that can transform how we view our lives and strengthen our relationships with others. When we actively practice gratitude, whether through quiet reflection, serving others, or even by keeping a simple daily list of things we appreciate, we begin to notice the good moments as they happen. I've found that writing down 5 things I'm grateful for each day has helped me recognize the abundance of positive experiences in my life, even during challenging times. This perspective has not only improved my own outlook but has also deepened my connections with others. As we enter this season of thankfulness, I'm encouraging our students to take a moment each day to notice and appreciate the simple gifts in their lives and the things that bring them joy; I would invite you to join in!
A few reminders for us:
1) Trimester 1 has come to an end! Students worked very hard to close out the Tri well and we are excited to share their learning with you!
2) MAP testing is coming soon! Students will begin MAP testing upon return from Fall Break!
3) Fall Break starts November 25th and go through November 29th. Students will return back to school on December 2nd.
Thank you all for making the first four months of my journey at Nichols a great one! I am so impressed by the dedication of our staff and partnership with our families. Nichols truly is a gem and I am grateful to be serving as one of your Assistant Principals. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Best,
Ms. Ernvall

Black SonRISE -- final week recap
Greetings Fellow Parents and Caregivers,
Thanks to many of you for joining us for a touching and meaningful final session of the fall this morning. We concluded our theme of community engagement with a recognition and celebration of women leaders. Strong women fill leadership roles across our society, from Washington D.C. to Evanston.
Police Chief Stewart was our guest speaker for the session, giving an impassioned call to action for our Risers to believe in themselves and their capacity to accomplish anything they set their minds to. She stressed the importance of their civic engagement, insisting that they are not too young to understand and learn about issues affecting their community.
The Risers then shared their appreciation for the moms and strong women in their lives, and many moms shared their perspectives on raising Black boys into leaders of tomorrow.
As we conclude our time together, the facilitating dads and I want you to know how much we enjoyed spending time with your Risers. We anticipate reconvening for a winter/spring session after the holiday break.
Again, thank you for trusting your children with us.
