Hello SIS Families,

Happy October! We are now a whole month into the school year. September was filled with learning, relationship-building, and establishing the routines and expectations that set the foundation for a successful year at SIS.

As we move into October, our focus is on building upon that foundation; deepening learning, strengthening connections, and continuing to support our students as they grow both academically and personally. I’m grateful for the partnership of our staff and families as we work together to create an environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and connected to our school community.

Tomorrow, our 7th graders will head off to Camp Whitcomb Mason for the Outdoor Experience field trip. This long-standing SIS tradition provides students with a chance to strengthen relationships, build teamwork, and connect as one community now that our two elementary schools have come together at SIS. It is always a highlight of the year and an experience students remember well into high school.

Fall Family-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner. In-person conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 13, and virtual conferences will take place on Thursday, October 15, from 4–7 p.m. These conferences provide a valuable opportunity for families to connect with their child’s teachers and discuss progress, celebrations, and areas of growth. Please read this letter for details on how to sign up and prepare for these important conversations.

As always, please take a moment to review the additional information below for upcoming events and important reminders, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!

In Partnership,

Tiara Rogers, SIS Principal

SIS Math Team

The SIS Math Team will hold its first meeting next Wednesday, October 6, in Room 134 during Flex! This awesome group of mathletes will prepare to compete in the national MATHCOUNTS competition. We’re excited to kick off another season of problem-solving, teamwork, and mathematical fun! We’re looking forward to another great season! If you have questions, contact Jennifer Murphy Damm.

SIS Mock Trial

The SIS Mock Trial Program is looking for volunteers! Whatever your experience with the law, we'd love to have you join us to explore the aspects of trial with an engaging group of seventh and eighth graders, culminating in a mock trial at the end of the year. We meet Fridays during lunch and flex. You are welcome to join us for as many or as few sessions as you are available. To volunteer or for more information, please contact Shorewood parent volunteers Tamar Kelber (kelber@gassturek.com) or Mike Lueder (mlueder@hansenreynolds.com).

Attention, 8th Grade Families

FastBridge Screening Data

The FastBridge Universal Screening Assessment is administered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to measure each student’s growth throughout the school year. Students in grades K-8 complete FastBridge testing in math. Students in grades 4-8 complete FastBridge testing in reading (aimswebPlus is used as the screening tool for reading in grades K-3). Families have access to FastBridge scores via Next Path.

Accessing the screening results through NextPath

Please use this link to view your student's FastBridge screener results. Step-by-step directions for accessing NextPath are linked here.

For each assessment your student completed, you will see a percentile, which measures how students performed relative to their peers nationally. This data allows staff to identify students who are on track as well as students who may need supplemental instruction focused on growth. You can learn more about FastBridge data by accessing the following link: ”Understanding the FastBridge Family Report.”

Wanted: Paper Grocery Bags for Composting

The SIS Environmental Club encourages all students and staff to put compostable food scraps in a designated waste bucket in the cafeteria, diverting them from the landfill. We are asking for donations of brown paper grocery bags to contain each day's scraps. If you have a surplus of paper bags piling up in your home pantry, please consider dropping some off in the SIS main office. Thanks!

SIS School Picture Orders

Retake Day proofs will be delivered to school sometime next week.

By now you should have seen your student's original picture day proof, which includes the link to visit the Scholastic Reflections website to place an order, if you'd like portrait prints. Enter your email address and “your access code” (it’s your child's Student Number, which you can find in Infinite Campus, by asking your student to find it on the sticker in their binder, or by looking on the portrait proof). Please place your order before Monday, October 5, if you care to. Packages will be delivered to school and sent home via Homeroom teachers.

You will still be able to order pictures after Picture Retake Day. We will share the instructions later.

SIS PTO News SIS PTO News

On Tuesday, October 13th and Thursday, October 15th, the PTO will be providing dinner to teachers and staff during Fall Conferences. The PTO will provide the main course. We need your help providing sides and beverages. Please review the sign up genius below for details on how you can help.

Sign up for dinner for Fall conferences

Thank you so much to those who have already donated to the SIS PTO. So far, we have raised $550. We are continuing to ask for donations to support PTO sponsored activities. Without your financial support, we are at risk of not being able to host all of the events that we have done traditionally.

The options for donating to the PTO are as follows:

  1. Donate via Venmo to: @SIS-Oldenburg

  1. Donate via Infinite Campus: From the home page, click on your student’s profile. Click “Fees.” At the bottom of the page, click “Optional Payments.” Select “SIS PTO Donation” and then an amount to add to your cart and pay.

  2. Drop off cash or a check payable to “SIS PTO” at the SIS office.

We have selected the date for the Fall Dance – Friday, November 20 from 6-8pm.

Watch for a sign up genius in the next few weeks with more information on how you can help with decorating, chaperoning, and selling concessions.

Our next PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, October 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Three Lions Pub. All are welcome to attend.

Please contact Laura Oldenburg at SISPTO414@gmail.com with any questions.

Reporting School Absences and Appointments

We appreciate when guardians report student absences to the SIS office in a timely fashion. Whether your student needs to arrive late, leave school for an appointment, or will be out for the whole day, you now have three ways to report the information so we can keep things flowing smoothly. Please use whatever reporting method is easiest for you!

  1. Leave a voicemail on the attendance line at 414-963-6959
  2. Email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us
  3. Use the Infinite Campus Portal (More > Absence Requests)

For medical appointments, please submit the slip you receive from the doctor's office after the appointment to the main office, either on paper or via email to sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us.

When your student was in elementary school, it may have seemed natural for you to notify their teacher about absences and appointments. You do not need to do that in grades 7-12. The office will record attendance information in Infinite Campus, where all of your child's teachers will see it.

Refer to the SSD 7-12 Grade Attendance Guidelines

To learn more about reporting student absences through the Infinite Campus website, please click here for a brief introduction or here for a video. The Campus Parent (Infinite Campus app) is available both on the Apple and Google Play stores. If you need help with accessing Infinite Campus, please contact Iris Bohan at ibohan@shorewood.k12.wi.us for assistance.
