Message from the Principal
One gorgeous, early morning this week, Seth took a breathtaking photo of Cornwall School. When he shared it in our staff chat, he commented that "our happy little school" was "looking like a Bob Ross painting." It gave me warm fuzzies, to quote a former kindergartener, now 2nd grader. As we close our third (short) week of school, our happy little school is feeling safe, joyful, thoughtful and kind.
With gratitude,
Nadya

Teachers will open their classrooms for Back-to-School Night after dinner, from 6-7pm.
Potluck food assignments by grade are below. Please label dishes with a name for easy return, tape an ingredient card to each dish for people with allergies (peanut free please), and no crock pots due to lack of outlets to plug them in.

Reminders and Useful Bits
- Snack: All students need to pack a snack each day.
- Shoes: All students need inside and outside shoes. We have many extras at school! Please help support the messaging that we need to change our shoes because the grass it wet and sometimes muddy.
State law re: child passenger safety
Each year, schools are asked to remind families about state safety laws regarding children riding in passenger cars.
Children under 8 must ride in a harnessed car seat or booster
Children under 13 years of age must ride in the back seat.
All children at Cornwall School are under 13, and, according to state law, must be riding in the back seat. There are reasonable exceptions to this for trucks without a back seat, of course.
Snapshots
First Grade
This week, first grade finalized the language of our very own classroom rules: be kind, be safe, take care of the environment, and do hard things. First graders have already shown that they are ready to shine in these areas. We see kind first graders when they listen carefully to their classmate's math thinking. First graders are safe when they control their bodies during our movement breaks so that everyone has their own space. We're seeing students care for the environment by cleaning up choice time toys and dropped food. This week, first graders did a very hard thing-- they read quietly and independently for 10 whole minutes straight! To celebrate their practice paying off, they opened the classroom library and chose new, exciting books!
