MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Franklin Students and Families,

Students and families are having to navigate a lot right now with what is happening in Minneapolis and locally related to ICE actions. At Franklin we will keep students safe by not allowing ICE agents in the building and implementing a secure the perimeter actual event, if needed to keep students and staff safe. Please reach out to school staff with any questions, concerns or needs for support. We are here to help in any way we can.

Today we noticed a significant number of students not in school linked to the National Shutdown -No School, No Work, No Shopping, Stop Funding ICE protest. If your student was participating in this protest by staying home or attending the rally near McDaniel High School parents/guardians are able to excuse their students' absence by using the Civic Engagement CEG attendance code in ParentVue or calling the school. This can be done in the next 3 days.

We have officially ended the first semester. You can expect to receive student report cards in the mail very soon. If you don’t receive the report card, call the office to update any address information.

Have a good weekend.

Thank you,

Dr. Z

NEW: Deadline to Order a Yearbook

If your student wants a 2025-26 yearbook, NOW is the time to order one! Books will not be sold at the end of the year, and Wednesday, February 25th is the last day to order one. They can be purchased with a credit card here or with cash from the bookkeeper. The price is $65, or $45 for those who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

News from Mrs. Whisnand's Climate Justice Class

If you are someone who enjoys making art then maybe you would be interested in creating an illustration that represents the beauty of Oregon's nature. The Franklin High School Climate Justice class is working to develop a mural design to paint within the school. If your design wins then you could earn $50 and leave a lasting impression on your school. Submissions can be made here!

AP Research Survey Seeking Community Responses

You have been invited to participate in a survey about housing development in Portland. The information is completely confidential and cannot be traced back to you. It should only take about five minutes to complete.

This information will be used in a paper for AP Research, a high-school level course designed to mimic the process of creating a college-level research paper. Thank you for your participation!

Immunization Reminder from Nurse Katie

This is a friendly reminder that vaccines (or signed exemptions) are required for your student to be in school! Exclusion date is Wednesday, February 25th, 2026. Winter break is coming up and that is a great time to call your students' doctors and get them in for a visit if they are due. Our Student Based Health Center is a great resource as well. I will be reaching out in the next couple of weeks to families who are in need of immunizations. Feel free to reach out to me (ksimeon@pps.net) if you have any questions or concerns!

Commencement Ticket Survey

PPS is excited to announce that this year’s graduation ceremonies will be held at Portland State University’s Viking Pavilion! This venue offers indoor seating for ticketed guests and convenient, affordable parking.

Due to limited capacity, each Franklin High School graduate is guaranteed five (5) guest tickets. We understand that some families may need fewer tickets while others may wish to request more. To help us assess ticket availability, we ask that you complete this ticket request survey by Friday, February 20th. Your response will provide essential information to determine whether additional tickets can be distributed.
