What is...Mental Health Awareness? by Olivia and Cece
May Is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but what does that mean? This has been celebrated since 1949 in an effort to address the challenges that millions of Americans face regarding mental health. Mental Health can effect people's emotional and psychological well being. Mental health is very important in middle school because we see students with anxiety and how they react to their grades or how nervous they get before a test/quiz. These nerves can impact their performance. We looked up ways to support Anxiety and here are some tips we found:
1. Build a strong support system
2. Establish Healthy Habits (such as getting active, prioritize sleep & eat well)
3. Focus on what you can control
4. Take the test/quiz one question at a time, don't get overwhelmed by the big picture.

Take care of yourself,
Take care of your Health.
Run out, walk out, don't sit inside.
Wash your hands, Stay safe!
Keep positive thoughts and every day play.
Cook your family dinner, bake a delicious cake.
Do some exercise, don't be afraid.
Do some art, play some darts.
Do a funny dance, imagine you're in France.
Read a book, take care of your looks.
You are not alone.
Chin up, smile happily and keep going.
Lockdown will be over soon,
To see your teachers and friends and you'll be shining over the moon.

Thank you to Keyon Boone and Joe Forti for helping the office staff and interns with organizing the keyboards after MCAS. Shout out to Chael Jones as well who continues to hold the door open to the busses at the end of the day with a smile. Friends would like to thank Sophia Waters because helps people understand their homework if they don't know what to do. And Caeli McLean makes people's days brighter because she always has a smile on her face and something nice to say. Thank you!

The Cabin
A hiker decided to go on a hike by himself. Something he was not very used to. The whole day was normal. Trees and bushes engulfed his surroundings. He enjoyed being outdoors in the mountains. Nothing seemed strange to him, that was until he was making his way back to his car. He figured an eight hour hike was good enough. The sky was already getting dark and he needed to get back, fast. What was odd was how much he didn’t recognize the trail back. He began to panic.
Night had already taken over and all he had was a flashlight and no clue on how to get back. He knew it was already too late and too dangerous to keep going through the perilous forest. He began to worry that he would have no shelter for the night when almost luckily enough, he stumbled across a broken-down cabin. It was dark, and seemed like no one had visited it in years, but he knew it was the only place where he could rest until daylight, especially since his flashlight was running out of battery. He knocked on the door a few times but no one answered, so he let himself in where strangely enough, a perfect bed fitted for one person awaited him in the center. He knew that if the owner came back he could explain himself, he was sure that the owner wouldn’t mind, or was even probably dead. So he went ahead and got himself comfortable in bed. As he tried to sleep, he couldn’t ignore the collection of paintings around the room; portraits of strange looking people all peering at him, each wearing a smile that sent chills up his spine. Not too long after his exhaustion from the hike got the best of him and he was able to ignore the faces.
What would you do?
