Sinfonia Orchestra visits Hamline!
The Sinfonia Orchestra visited Hamline this past week. Musicians visited classrooms to answer questions about music and the instruments they play, and the whole school was treated to a concert by the full orchestra.
Volunteers Needed: 5th Grade Biztown Visit
Our 5th graders are visting BizTown on April 22nd, and we hope you can join us.
If you are interested, please contact our counselor, Annette Nelson: annette.nelson@spps.org
About Biztown:
While exploring and working in JA BizTown, students have the chance to discover careers, build financial skills, collaborate with classmates, exercise civic duties, invest in the community, and more! With both in-person and virtual options, it’s accessible for students across our region.
The in-person experience takes place in a simulated city at our St Paul facility. Several weeks of classroom learning culminates in a day-long visit where students are paired with volunteers and work in one of 18 JA BizTown shops.
Through educational lessons, immersive activities, and active participation in a simulated economy, it’s an experience they draw from for the rest of their lives!
Ensuring access to programming is central to our mission, which is why we now have JA BizTown Adventures, which offers the same learning concepts in a virtual space. If students can’t make it to our learning labs, we bring the learning to them in partnership with their educators!

Hello, Hamline Elementary families and community!
The longstanding collaboration between Hamline Elementary and Hamline University is a one-of-kind program in Saint Paul and the first of its kind in the nation. Whether you’re new to Hamline Elementary or have been here for a while, we’re excited to share the experiences that our Collaboration provides to this special community of learners!
We hosted our annual Discovery Expo event on campus on March 13th and it was a wonderful success. Students from all grade levels visited Anderson Center for hands-on learning experiences from a variety of campus organizations, programs, and academic departments. The goal of the event is provide college and career exploration in a fun and engaging way and - as we do with all our programming - build strong relationships across our two campuses. Many thanks to all who attended and supported this wonderful event!
We are busy preparing for a 2nd grade academic pairing in April with a “Business in Society” class as well as planning kindergarten tours of Bush Library in May. We are also thrilled to be partnering again with Hamline University Athletics for an all-school field day on May 9 at 10am on Klas Field. Families are enthusiastically invited to attend!
We are once again participating in Hamline University’s Piper Funding Week (April 14-18) to support Collaboration programming through the recruitment, retention, and support of tutors, mentors, and our many program partners. Our goal is to continue our steady return to pre-Covid levels of programming and offer both the Hamline Elementary and Hamline University communities the very best of what the Collaboration can offer. Reach out to our team for more details about how to participate in this fundraising effort.
As a reminder, we launched four new social media accounts this fall and welcome all members of the Hamline Elementary community to follow us and keep up with the people and programs that bring the Collaboration to life:
