From our Library
Grand Avenue students are amazing readers! They have checked out 17,312 books so far this school year. Students can still check-out books next week. Please note all library books are due back by Friday, May 23rd. The library will be sending overdue notices home, so please help your student(s) look under beds, in closets, and on your bookshelves. We appreciate your help!
Counselor Connection
May is National Mental Health Awareness month. As a student services team, we are working together to spread awareness and encourage elementary students and families to engage in activities that will help improve their mental wellbeing and overall health.
Do you know that mental health conditions can begin in early childhood and the prevalence changes with age? Anxiety problems, behavior disorders, and depression are the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders in children.
Starting Monday, May 12th, Grand Avenue will kick off a school wide “Mindful Explorers” challenge for your family to participate in.
In May, all grade levels will be engaged in classroom guidance lessons which will help them explore careers. We will talk about the main differences between jobs and careers being:
Specialized training and/or education
Long-term (lifelong)
Consistent income
The 3rd grade classes will focus on learning the names of many different types of careers, as well as some skills and knowledge that they would need to be successful in those careers. We will also discuss how our choices now will have an impact on which careers we are able to do as adults. As they get to know themselves better, they will get to know which careers they may be good at someday.
The 4th grade classes will focus on the 16 career clusters which can influence many related career pathways. They will learn how our interests at a young age could be combined with other interests and/or skills to steer us into a cluster that best matches our personality. At the end of the month, they will be able to fortune-tell their projected career path.
The 5th grade classes will focus on connecting their career personality type (Holland Code) to the 16 career clusters, based upon how much training and/or education they would like to commit to at this time. They will be taking an online interest inventory that will connect them to similar career options. Then they will have time to further explore one career of their choice.
As always, please reach out to me if you ever have any questions about our classroom guidance units and/or topics. I can be reached at sadie.sutter@saukprairieschools.org or (608) 643-1969. Thank you!

Community Center
Summer is a wonderful time for students to relax and enjoy a well-earned break, but it is also a great time to recharge our minds and bodies! Sauk Prairie Schools Community Education and the Sauk Prairie Recreation Department offer youth enrichment, physical activity and lifelong learning opportunities for all ages in a fun, low-pressure setting. Some of our programs are just good old fun while others offer the opportunity to improve a skill, discover a new hobby or improve wellness.
Attendance Information
If you call your child in with an illness, we would like you to, please let us know the symptoms, i.e., a fever, sore throat, headache, cough, etc., that your child may have.
In addition, if your child usually rides the bus, please call Lamers to let them know if your child will not be riding the bus. They can be contacted at 608-460-7050.
Dismissal Changes
Temporary Dismissal Changes
To ensure the safety of students and allow for adjustments in bus routes, a parent/guardian must complete this form prior to their child riding a bus route that is different from the child's regular dismissal plan documented in Skyward.
The district strongly encourages all requests to be submitted prior to 11:00 AM on the day the change is needed. This form applies to all students in all grades (4K - Grade 12).

Traffic Safety
To improve traffic flow, please pull up toward Marion Park instead of stopping directly in front of the main entrance. You can also drop your child off near the crossing guards, who are there to assist. Additionally, please have your child exit the vehicle closest to the sidewalk rather than onto the street. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep everyone safe!
