Thank You Thank You

FHN PTO & Academic Boosters Club! FHN PTO & Academic Boosters Club!

On behalf of the teachers and staff at Forest Hills Northern, a heartfelt thank you goes to the FHN PTO & Academic Boosters Club for organizing our Fall Conference Dinners. Thank you as well to every family who gave their time or money to make them happen.

Thanks to your generosity, more than 65 supporters raised over $1,600, which beat the fundraising goal. Parent-teacher conferences mean long days and late evenings, and coming together over a warm meal made a real difference for our staff.

To the volunteers who planned, organized, picked up, set up, served and cleaned up: thank you for your time and effort. To everyone who donated: thank you for your support. You made our teachers and staff feel truly appreciated.

We’re grateful to be part of such a caring school community!

With gratitude,
The Teachers and Staff of Forest Hills Northern High School

Schools Can No Longer Issue Work Permits

Beginning October 2, 2026, Michigan is moving the minor work permit process online to a new centralized system called the Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP) managed by the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (Michigan LEO).

What is Changing
  • No more school permits: High schools and local school districts will completely stop issuing or revoking youth work permits.
  • Centralized online portal: Minors under 18 and employers must use YEPP to register, apply for, and process permits digitally.

Key Rules for Minors (Ages 14–15)
  • School year hours: Work is limited to 3 hours per day and 18 hours per week when school is in session.
  • Non-school hours: Minors can work up to 40 hours per week when school is out.
  • Allowed times: Minors age 14–15 may work between 7 am and 7 pm during the school year, and extended until 9 pm from June 1 through Labor Day.

  • 💻 Learn more about the new process and what students and employers need to know: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/initiatives/youth-employment
