Dear Families,

As we prepare to welcome the 2025–26 school year, we’re thrilled to share some exciting news and updates with you. There’s so much to celebrate at La Escuela Fratney—thanks to our wonderful students, staff, and families!

🌟 Enrollment Milestone

We are proud to share that our enrollment has reached 550 students—the highest in our school’s history! Enrollment has been steadily increasing for four consecutive years, and we are deeply grateful for your continued trust and support. At this time, we still have openings for Spanish-speaking students in any grade level.

📚 3rd Grade Growth

We’re excited that only three students are transferring to Golda Meir for 3rd grade. If current numbers hold, we will have three full 3rd grade classrooms—something we haven’t seen in over 15 years! We are preparing accordingly and will be ready to support this growth.

🎓 6th Grade Success

We’re delighted that 30 students are continuing on with us for 6th grade next year. It’s a joy to see our students grow and thrive as they move through our school.

👨‍🏫 New Staff & Staffing Updates

We’re welcoming several wonderful new staff members this fall, especially Spanish-speaking male educators, who bring energy and diversity to our team:

• Mr. Juan, our new Physical Education teacher

• Mr. Cosme, our new paraprofessional

• Mr. Rick, our new part-time Music teacher (joining full-time music teacher Ms. Amanda)

We're also in the process of hiring a bilingual parent coordinator, who will begin this fall. More to come!

🧠 Student Support Services

For the first time in over five years, both our school psychologist and social worker will be full-time at Fratney! This means more support for students and families throughout the year.

🎉 Staff Recognition

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Kat, who has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship! We’re so proud of her incredible achievement.

📖 Professional Learning

Our dedicated educators have been hard at work even this summer:

• Our K5 team, including new teacher Ms. Camilla, attended a 3-day Teaching for Biliteracy conference in Chicago with Ms. Sara, learning directly from Karen Beeman.

• Five additional teachers attended a Standards-Based Learning conference right here in Milwaukee.

They’re returning with fresh ideas and strategies to make this year even more impactful for our students.

🕓 Dismissal Time Change

New dismissal time for all students: 4:15 PM
This adjustment will help ensure smoother bus transitions and shorter wait times for families and students.

🤝 Partnerships

We’re proud to continue and grow our amazing partnerships:

• Ongoing collaboration with UWM’s PIECE Program (focused on inclusion)

• Renewed partnership with UWM Service-Learning students supporting Spanish instruction

• Continued AmeriCorps Reading Tutor Program

All of our previous partners are staying with us as well! Have an idea for a new partnership? We’d love to hear it!

🏫 Facilities Update

Lead abatement work is in progress, and we anticipate the building will be fully cleared and ready by mid-August. Thank you for your patience and support during this important work.

• Our Summer Carnival was a fantastic success—with over 50 families attending and more than $200 raised toward updating our staff lounge.

A big thank you to SEC members Amanda, CJ, and Amy, and to all staff who helped set up, supported during the event, or stayed to clean up. We couldn’t have done it without you!

One of our very own bilingual educators at La Escuela Fratney has achieved something truly amazing!

Ms. Kat won a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to serve as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Mexico for the 2025-2026 academic year from the U.S. Department of State under the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. It offers grants to students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals from the U.S. and other countries to study, teach, and conduct research abroad, fostering mutual understanding between nations. She was chosen based on her high academic knowledge, leadership skills, and recommendations from those who have worked with her. She is a highly distinguished teacher just a few years into her bilingual teaching career. And we are so #MPSProud of her!

Kat recibió una beca Fulbright del Programa Fulbright para Estudiantes Estadounidenses para servir como Asistente de Profesora de Inglés Fulbright en México durante el año académico 2025-2026, otorgada por el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos, a través de la Junta de Becas Fulbright para el Extranjero. 🌟 ¡Nuevo récord de matrícula!

Nos enorgullece compartir que hemos alcanzado una matrícula de 550 estudiantes, ¡la más alta en la historia de nuestra escuela! 📚 Crecimiento en 3.º grado

¡Estamos felices de compartir que solo tres estudiantes se están transfiriendo a Golda Meir para 3.º grado! Ya estamos planificando para este crecimiento y estaremos listos para recibirlos.

🎓 Éxito en 6.º grado

¡Nos alegra muchísimo que 30 estudiantes continúen con nosotros para 6.º grado el próximo año! Es un orgullo ver cómo nuestros estudiantes crecen y prosperan dentro de nuestra escuela.

👨‍🏫 Nuevo personal y actualizaciones

Damos la bienvenida a varios educadores varones que hablan español, quienes aportarán mucha energía y diversidad a nuestro equipo:

🧠 Servicios de apoyo estudiantil

Por primera vez en más de cinco años, tanto nuestro psicólogo escolar como nuestro trabajador social estarán a tiempo completo en Fratney. ¡Esto significa más apoyo disponible para nuestros estudiantes y familias durante todo el año!

🎉 Reconocimiento al personal

¡Felicitaciones a la Sra. Kat, quien ha sido galardonada con una prestigiosa beca Fulbright! Estamos muy orgullosos de este logro tan importante.

📖 Aprendizaje profesional

🕓 Cambio en el horario de salida

Nuevo horario de salida para todos los estudiantes: 4:15 PM

🏫 Actualización sobre el edificio

Actualmente se están realizando trabajos de eliminación de plomo (abatimiento) y se espera que el edificio esté completamente listo para mediados de agosto. ¡Gracias por su paciencia y apoyo durante este proceso tan importante!

Please note that in order to create equitable experiences for all of our students and to form a positive classroom community in which sharing is the norm, most of our classrooms combine supplies for all students to use as community supplies. Therefore, please only label their backpack, extra clothes, and/or blanket if applicable.

• K3, K4, and K5 students should send in an extra set of clothes in a bag labeled with the students’ name.

There will be one calendar for the whole district again this year. Please review this calendar before making plans for trips or vacations. Students must be in school 95% of the time or more which means they can only miss 1 day a month the whole school year. Students who miss more than 10 days of school a year fall behind academically and socially. Make a plan now to be in school every day on time.
