From the Principal’s Desk
Gunnison Middle School Families,
Happy Friday, GMS families! It’s been a fun and full week here at school. We’re kicking off the weekend with our Fall Dance tonight, and students are ready to celebrate the end of the quarter with friends, music, and plenty of school spirit!
Our boys basketball season is already off and running, and it’s great to see our athletes working hard and getting ready to represent GMS with pride.
We’re also thrilled to introduce Jasmine, our new facility dog, who joined the GMS family this week! She’s already bringing smiles and calm energy to our hallways—students and staff alike are so excited to welcome her.
As we start a new quarter, students are diving into fresh classes and new learning opportunities. Parent/Teacher Conferences are just a few weeks away, and we look forward to connecting with families soon to celebrate progress and talk about what’s ahead. Report cards and assessment results will also be shared at this time.
Thanks, as always, for being part of our GMS community.
If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. You can also schedule a meeting with me using the link below.

This week for lunch...
Dear GMS family,
This has been a very full short week at school. We have come together as a community to support each other through some challenging times. We have worked hard to prepare for the end of the first quarter. We have welcomed our wonderful facility dog, Jasmine, and enjoyed lots of pets, cuddles, and kisses. We are excited for the first dance of the year and the start of boys basketball. And through it all, we have been a family. I hope that everyone is able to take a moment this weekend to practice some self care, as I think we all could use more of that right now. Self-care isn’t just bubble baths or spa days (though those can be nice!). It’s about small, everyday choices that help you stay balanced and healthy. Getting enough sleep, eating foods that give you energy, spending time with people who make you feel good, and setting aside a few minutes to relax or reflect all count as self-care.
Try these simple ideas:
Move your body—go for a walk, dance, or play outside.
Unplug for a while—take a break from screens and social media.
Write or draw your thoughts—journaling can help clear your mind.
Talk to someone you trust—sharing feelings can lighten your load.
Do something creative or fun—it’s good for your heart and mind!
Remember: taking care of yourself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. When you make self-care a habit, you’re stronger, calmer, and better able to care for others too. Thank you for an incredible first quarter of the school year! Please reach out if I can ever help or support you with anything. Go, Mustangs!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Your child's participation in school maximizes their life opportunities! With daily attendance, students can succeed in their education, have access to support, and won't fall behind socially. They gain skills, knowledge, and learn values that will set them up for further learning and help them participate in their community!
We understand that illness, family commitments, and other unavoidable circumstances can interfere with your child’s attendance. However, we cannot stress enough the importance of consistent and punctual attendance. Classroom experiences are impossible to replicate and the work missed cannot be made up adequately.
Thank you for your support!
Digital Citizenship Week: October 20-24
GMS will be joining the celebration with classrooms around the world to share tools students need to be successful with technology in school and beyond! Each day students will hear a different Digital Citizenship message in the morning announcements and engage in conversations and activities during advisory, class, and passing periods. We will be inviting parents and caregivers to engage in daily family activities as well. Keep an eye out for a daily email with ideas from Common Sense Media to share at home.
