Hello Gainesville Hawks' Families! Hello Gainesville Hawks' Families!

zoom_out_map

As we embark on the second half of the school year, we want to emphasize staying focused and utilizing available resources to ensure a successful and productive semester for our students. We encourage our students and their families to set a goal for the second half of the year. Whether that be improving your grades, having zero missing assignments or taking advantage of all your retake opportunities, we challenge you to set a goal that is specific and achievable! Make sure that you are utilizing the resources at GVMS to help you meet your goal. The most important resource we have in the building are our teachers. They are always a wealth of support for students! The homework club is a perfect place to spend some time working on a particularly difficult concept or even catch up on missing work. Make sure the form is completed before the student's first time attending.

We are looking for a few parents to be willing to donate snacks to the department for students. Students come down a little hungry and a snack is just what they need to return to the learning environment. If you are willing to donate, you can drop the snack off in the front office or contact Mrs. Castles to coordinate. A huge THANK YOU to the students and families that have already donated!!

Our school counseling department is here to support your success! Have a problem with a friend? We can help with that! Having a hard time with organizing your school work? We can help with that! Please reach out so that we can assist you. If we are unavailable, students can send us an email request or come to the counseling suite lobby to fill out the request form on the Ipad. We strive to see students that have completed a request within the same school day or following school day. As always, if you have any concerns, please reach out to share. We are happy to help!

The first week of February was National School Counseling week! We wanted to take a moment to highlight the work we have been doing so far this year. We provide support to all students in order to help create an environment where all students can succeed. A few of our key responsibilities include: individual counseling support, small groups, academic advising, crisis intervention and most importantly, advocacy. We collaborate with teachers, administrators and families while pulling on our understanding of human development and mental health. We have delivered 156 classroom lessons and have had several small groups. Below is our data from the first semester.

*Please note that unique students refers to the number of students seen at least once. For example, a student may come down three times a day but is only counted in the data as one vs. three.

Self-care is a way we can help manage stress, increase energy and lower risk of illness. It is important that we learn how to practice self-care in order to improve our physical and mental health. The virtual wellness room has links to various activities that will help us learn and/or practice self-care. Click on the various items to learn more!
