Two Features Highlight How CPS Supports Multilingual Students
Chelsea Public Schools had two publications come out this week that highlighted our district-wide systems to support our multilingual learners.
Chelsea Public Schools Director of Multilingual Education Dr. Alberto Carrero and Bilingual Program Lead & CHS AP Spanish Language teacher Ana Lynn Romero co-authored an article featured in the Fall 2026 edition of Soleado, a publication of Dual Language Education of New Mexico! The article captures the evolution of CPS' Caminos program and how the bilingualism of our students is an incredible strength.
In EdWeek, CPS and the Browne Middle School were featured in an article that highlights how different schools across the country approach supporting older multilingual students. The article highlights the work happening at the Browne, where the school is continuing its transition toward becoming a full dual-language school as part of our district-wide Caminos program.

CHS Cantare Performs at Overdose Candlelight Vigil
On September 24th, 2026, the Community Action Programs Inter-City Inc. (in partnership with the City of Chelsea and Bay Cove Human Services) hosted the 11th Annual Overdose Candlelight Vigil at Chelsea Square. A solemn yet hopeful evening, this vigil allowed for members of the community to come together to recognize all the emotions that come with knowing or being someone in the throes of addiction, remembering those that have lost their lives, and rejoicing those who are working towards the road to recovery.
Vocalists from the CHS Cantare, under the direction of Ms. Dana Sheridan and support from Ms. Shannon Chick and Mr. Pete Pappavaselio, assisted in this event through both performance and event service. Before the event began, students helped set up tea lights for the Candlelight Vigil, had their dress rehearsal on stage, and helped pass out purple ribbons - the official symbol for National Recovery Month.
During the ceremony, students listened to real stories from recovering addicts, survivors, family members, and community members and watched other musical performances. Along with the event organizers, CHS Cantare students Alex Chang (‘27), Sofia Guerrero Flores (‘27), Helen Ponce (‘27), Kellsie Rae Rinaldi (‘28), and Keri Williams (‘29) helped read the names of those who have lost their lives due to addiction. The event ended with Cantare performing a beautiful rendition of the traditional secular round “Dona Nobis Pacem” - which translates to “Grant Us Peace.” CHS Cantare is grateful to have been a part of this program every year since the Overdose Candlelight Vigil’s inception.
