Counseling Counseling

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and we are highlighting next week, September 8-11, as Suicide Prevention Week. There will be activities available for students to participate in throughout the week to encourage students to "seize the awkward" and say something to peers/friends if they are worried about them. Please speak with your student about the importance of reaching out when they need help, or reaching out when they think friends need extra support. Several excellent resources for more information include 988lifeline.org, afsp.org, and seizetheawkward.org.

The counselors are holding a Virtual Senior Parent Presentation on Thursday, September 17th from 6-7pm. This presentation will cover the information provided to our seniors during classroom lessons, which is specific information about SchooLinks, how to apply to college, transcripts, and letters of recommendation. Please use this link on Thursday, September 17th in order to join the Senior Virtual Parent Presentation. If you are not able to join please know that a copy of the slideshow, a recording of the presentation that evening, and other important information will be sent through email to all senior families after the event.

Seniors! Did you know that Brooke Point is lucky to have the services of Cherice Taylor, a Germanna College and Career Advisor? Ms. Taylor works out of the Counseling office and meets with students who need assistance with navigating the postsecondary world, figuring out how to connect their interests to a career, and even registering for classes with Germanna for Fall 2027 (spring time-frame). Check out her SEPTEMBER tips!"

Hope Squad Information

Attention Students and Parents! HOPE Squad is a fantastic new program at BPHS to support students who may be struggling. The purpose of the HOPE Squad program is to improve access and availability to appropriate prevention services for vulnerable individuals who are at risk for suicide. The HOPE Squad program functions as a peer support team. The goal is to provide friendship, encouragement, and support for students who may be struggling.

Students are nominated by their peers as someone who displays naturally good listening skills and to whom students would go to if they needed help during difficult times. The HOPE Squad students DO NOT act as counselors but rather will be trained to refer their peers to a trusted adult for help. We are excited that students will have this additional layer of support from their peers!!! If you have any questions about the program, please reach out to Nancy Riffe in the Counseling Department or Michelle Parr who is the Speciality Center Coordinator of the CHAMP program.

Juniors! Would you like to be a member of the school board? If so, check out the letter attached for more information!

Attention Seniors! Get your MONEY for college!

Every year money is left on the table because students do not know what scholarships are available. To help with the communication of scholarship information, BPHS has created a county-wide scholarship Google Classroom for you to join. Use the code utf77qsk and check back regularly for the most up-to-date information. Best of luck and score some cash for school!

In order to join, click on your Google Waffle, then click on Classroom. Once you are in Google Classroom, click on the + symbol in the top right corner, then enter the code utf77qsk to join the class.

Attendance Attendance

Every Day Matters — and Every Minute Counts!

Regular attendance and arriving at school on time are important parts of student success. When students are at school each day and ready to begin at 7:30 a.m., they are better able to stay connected to their classes, keep up with instruction, and start the day on a positive note. Families can help by building morning routines that allow students enough time to arrive, enter the building, and get to class before the 7:30 bell. Even a few minutes late can add up to missed instructional time over the course of the school year. We also want families to know that we will be reaching out early when a student’s absences begin to add up. Our goal is to connect with families before attendance becomes a larger concern, better understand any barriers that may be affecting attendance, and work together to support students in getting to school consistently and on time.

Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance and on-time arrival a priority. Every day matters, every minute counts, and we want our students here and ready to learn!

AP Classroom Reminders

By now, all students enrolled in an AP course should be registered in their AP Classroom using the join code provided by their teacher. Being registered gives students access to AP Classroom resources and helps make sure they are included in the AP Exam registration process.

If you are having trouble logging in to your College Board account or joining your AP Classroom, please reach out to Mrs. Papas, AP Coordinator, at papasab@staffordschools.net. She will be happy to help

AP Exam fees can be paid through Stafford County Public Schools Online School Payments (OSP) for Brooke Point High School. If your family may need financial assistance with exam fees, Counseling will be sharing information soon about how to apply for support.
