Crow Island Parent Newsletter
April 20, 2026
Dear Crow Island Community,
Our STEAM Expo was incredible! I was so impressed by the creativity, effort, and pride our students put into their projects. It was wonderful to see such strong participation, and I’m grateful to our families for supporting students throughout the process. A special thank you to our PTO, Crow Island teachers, and Amy Banas, Mindi Maneck, and Anne Hazelwood for their leadership in bringing this event to life. Be sure to check out more details and photos below.
As we move through the final stretch of April, students continue to work hard each day. There’s a lot of excitement building around end-of-year projects and activities, and it’s great to see students staying focused and giving their best.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
Sincerely,
Anna

Lighthouse Moment: STEAM Expo
I was blown away by the STEAM Expo projects last week! It was clear that students chose topics they were passionate about, conducted extensive research, and brought creativity and flair to their work. From capybaras to how different dogs breathe to the Detroit Red Wings, the wide range of projects offered a wonderful snapshot of our students’ interests and passions.
This event would not have been possible without the support of our PTO and teachers, and especially Amy Banas, Mindi Maneck, and Anne Hazelwood. It required a great deal of coordination and organization, and I’m so grateful to everyone who came together to make this experience possible for our students.
Thursday evening was full of energy and excitement. It was so special to see students proudly sharing their projects with friends and families. I’m already looking forward to what our students create next year!
Crow Island Parent Input Survey for 2026-2027 Classroom Placements
As we begin planning our class placements for school year 2026-2027, we engage in a thoughtful process to create balanced and supportive learning communities for all students. In doing so, we consider many factors, including students’ academic and social-emotional profiles, as well as input from current teachers and families.
If you would like to share insights about your child’s learning style or any academic or social-emotional considerations that may help inform this process, you are welcome to do so by completing the form below. Family input will be reviewed by Crow Island administrators and teachers as part of the overall placement process.
Please note that while we value your perspective, we are not able to honor specific teacher requests. Thank you for trusting our professional judgment as we work to create thoughtful learning environments and positive experiences for every Crow Island student.
If you would like your input to be considered, please complete the form by Friday, May 1, 2026. A separate survey will be sent out to incoming Kindergarten families in a few weeks. Current 4th graders will complete a Skokie form.

Traffic Reminders
- When lining up on Willow Road before turning into the circle, please do not get too close to Glendale Ave. Cars that are lining up too close to Glendale are blocking visibility for drivers turning onto Willow Road.
- Please be sure that you are not stopping on Glendale Ave. when turning into the circle.
- Be sure to wait until there is room to enter the circle before turning off of Willow Rd.
- Additionally, when exiting the circle, please do not turn left until there is space to fit your vehicle without blocking Glendale.
- Finally, please pull over as far to the right as possible on Glendale when picking up a student from the back playground.
We want to ensure that we are not blocking Glendale in case there were ever a need of an emergency vehicle that needed to get through to the school or neighbor. Thank you so much for your attention to these matters!
