Our Learning Community...

As we enter mid-September, we want to take a moment to celebrate the diversity and vibrancy that make our school community so special. This month, we are excited to honor Latinx Heritage Month, a time to reflect on and celebrate the rich cultural contributions of Latinx communities. Through stories, music, art, and history, we are proud to recognize the many ways Latinx individuals have shaped our world and continue to inspire us today. To help bring these celebrations into your homes, we have included a collection of Latinx stories and books in the Book Collections section of this newsletter. We encourage you to explore these books with your children, creating meaningful conversations and connections at home.

We also want to highlight the professional development happening right here at our school. Mrs. Petersen and Ms. Carson are currently attending district mathematics trainings to enhance their expertise around our new curriculum. Their commitment to bringing back new insights and strategies to our school is inspiring. We are so fortunate to have them leading the charge in creating a collaborative, growth-focused learning environment for our team. Their leadership will empower our teachers and support staff and in turn, support the growth and success of our students.

Finally, we cannot contain our excitement about the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) work happening across the school! From coding and robotics to creative book projects, the energy and enthusiasm in our classrooms are palpable. Our students are diving into these hands-on learning experiences with such curiosity and passion. We are so proud of the innovative work happening and look forward to seeing all of the amazing things our students will continue to create.

Latinx Heritage Month Latinx Heritage Month

Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!

Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.

Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.

Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:

  • Choose a cozy time and space to read together

  • Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)

  • Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension

  • Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby

The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
