Staff Appreciation Week

The KA staff members are second to none!

Thank you to everyone who helped celebrate them in May.

The meals, treats, and notes were sincerely appreciated!

A Time to Celebrate, Reflect, and Share

The KA Presentations of Learning (POL) event allowed students to

showcase two of their favorite projects during separate sessions.

Eager guests busted a move in the dance studio, conducted the band,

played ukuleles, created puppets, filled out graphic organizers, and so much more.

Students impressed the guests and family members with

the arts-integration projects and their presentation skills.

As a charter school, POL is a required, signature event for KA.

Taking Care of the Earth

The KA students converged upon the neighborhood

as part of an Earth Day clean-up.

Armed with gloves and garbage bags, the students helped

fill the dumpster and beautify the nearby green spaces.

Music to our Ears

Beautiful music filled the air during several spring concerts.

Each song and performance showcased the

directors' and musicians' dedication, hard work, and talent.

Spring Fling the KA Way

With a little spring in their steps, students danced the night away.

It was a fun and memorable evening of

laughter, dancing, games, and delicious treats.

Dinner is Served!

More than 60 family members, administrators, and community members

experienced the 3rd annual KA Kitchen Restaurant Night.

The celebration featured Asian-American and Pacific-Islander cuisine,

which was prepared and served by the KA Kitchen students.

Future Cardinals Swoop In

The KA band members performed uplifting music to welcome the

5th graders who came to check out their new school.

The incoming students took tours, completed activities,

and even tried opening lockers.

The Transition Day helped them feel more comfortable at KA.

Dancing with Life

The 6th grade Bilingual Spanish and Dance students visited the

Dancing with Life: Mexican Masks exhibit at

The Paine Art Center and Gardens.

The exhibit explored Mexico's rich festival culture and

the artists and dancers behind these beautiful traditions.

Students learned about authentic Mexican masks and danzas,

created unique masks, and performed dances to showcase their creations.

The hands-on experience connected language, art, and movement!

Letting their Lights Shine

As part of the Africa unit in Humanities, the 7th graders read African folktales,

and identified elements of the story, including the setting, characters, and plot.

They chose characters or props and created shadow puppets.

The students worked together to retell the stories through puppetry.

Journey to Latin America

The inaugural Travel Expo gave the 6th graders the opportunity

to promote their preferred Latin American country.

They researched, planned, and created projects that

were presented at the Travel Expo.

And That's the Rest of the Story

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade final Theater projects featured talented KA students!

Story Theater is a theatrical form that combines storytelling and performance,

using simple staging and actors to narrate and enact a story simultaneously.

It emphasizes creativity, imagination, and ensemble work. Bravo!

Searching the School in Spanish

The 7th grade Intro Spanish students put their detective skills to work!

After learning how to describe people and places around school,

students participated in an exciting scavenger hunt during which

they read and interpreted clues written entirely in Spanish.

They navigated the halls to locate hidden clues, solve the mysteries,

and practice their language skills in a fun, real-world way.

¡Buen trabajo, estudiantes!

History Exhibit How-to

To kick off the Continental Drift and Seafloor Spreading Science unit,

the 7th graders walked to the History Museum at the Castle.

They learned about how museum information is presented,

how interactive exhibits engage visitors, and how to gather ideas,

so they could create their own interactive exhibit for their projects.

Labs, Learning, and Lunches

Learning can be so satisfying - especially when food is involved!

The 6th grade Healthy Lifestyles students mastered

a homemade macaroni and cheese recipe,

and the 7th grade Culinary Around the World students

cooked delicious chicken curry, using a recipe from India.
