CogAT Updates

Beginning this school year, we are streamlining the assessment information used to support student recommendations for district programming. As part of this work, the Cognitive Abilities Assessment will no longer be administered universally to 5th grade students. This does not impact CogAT testing in 2nd grade, where it will continue to be administered to all students. This change reflects our ongoing effort to limit the collection of redundant information when meaningful data is already available through classroom assessments and i-Ready. Additionally, reducing unnecessary testing minimizes classroom disruptions and preserves valuable instructional time. Our philosophy and criteria for identifying and supporting students in district programs, like Project Arrow and Accelerated Math, have not changed. School teams will continue to use multiple sources of student data to make thoughtful placement and programming recommendations for students.

Blizzard Bucks: Celebrating Students!

Each day students have the opportunity to earn Blizzard Bucks for being great role models and following our school rules. Students cash in those Blizzard Bucks with their classroom teacher for a variety of special incentives, such as having lunch with their teacher, reading a book aloud to another classroom, choosing their seat for the day, and more.

This year, we've added a school-wide Blizzard Buck incentive! We are collecting the Blizzard Bucks students cash in to fill our Blizzard Buck Backpack. Classes have been brainstorming ways to celebrate when we reach our goal, and we are currently working toward earning a school-wide dance party!

Other celebrations we may work toward throughout the year include gum day, PJ day, stuffy day, movie day and more! We can't wait to see how quickly our Blizzard Buck Backpack fills up!

Spring Brook PTA

We're in the single digits - there are three days left in PTA Membership Drive! The competition between classes is tighter than ever! Which grade will win? Check out our current standings in this week's newsletter. Today is a GREAT DAY to join the PTA.

We also had a wonderful week celebrating kindness, inclusion, and respect during last week's Anti-Bully Week. A highlight included welcoming Staley the Bear for a fun (and loud) "Bear Down on Bullies" assembly. See our Facebook page for photos and check out this video on our PTA drive!

Finally, mum pickup is TODAY! If you ordered mums during our fall fundraiser, please stop by the Breckenridge Clubhouse this afternoon between 2 and 6 p.m. to pick up your order.
