COMPASSION

During the month of December, our elementary students' Word of the Month was "Compassion." Students were encouraged to show different acts of compassion throughout the month, both at school and at home. One act was to bring in a canned good. All of the canned goods were collected and are currently being stored at the High School.

In addition to our students and families being able to confidentially receive Pointer Pantry money, we will also have some food on hand, should the need arise. Please contact the school psychologist, Mrs. Oellerich if you are a family in need of support at katelyn.oellerich@mp.k12.wi.us.

Friday before Winter Break, 4th grade students participated in a community service project, tying nearly 40 fleece blankets which will be given to area children staying in hospitals! Approximately half of the blankets will be donated to the American Family Children's Hospital in Madison and half will be given to Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville. To make this event possible, 4th grade students and families donated money and fleece material. Additionally, family volunteers donated several hours of their time and came to school to assist students in assembling and tying the blankets. A fun time was had by all!

Home and School Connection

Save your shoes -- shoe drive is on the way!

The Mineral Point Unified School District Wellness Committee is asking you to start saving your gently worn shoes for an upcoming shoe drive.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Wellness Committee to increase awareness and factors contributing to physical and mental well-being, and to encourage others to make healthier lifestyle choices.

Shoes will be given to those in need in other countries.

How can I help?

  • Go into closets, storage, garages, and around the house looking for shoes that can be given away.

  • Make sure you have permission to give the shoes away.

  • Place them in a bag, but don’t forget to keep the pairs together by tying the laces, or rubber banding them together.

  • The gently worn, used, and new shoes should be in good condition with the soles intact, dry, clean, no holes, and still have life left in them. If you wouldn’t give them to a friend, then they are not worthy to submit.

  • Drop off at:

    Point Foods

    Ivey's Pharmacy

    MPHS

    MP Elementary

In the US alone, over 600 million pairs of shoes are thrown away per year. The materials

used to manufacture a pair of shoes are created from chemical compounds that will create health hazards if left to disintegrate openly or in landfills. By donating your gently worn, used and new shoes, your shoes are given a second chance to make a difference.
