Weekly RAM Newsletter
Greetings from the Desk of Principal Mills
Sunday, September 6th, 2026
Happy Sunday Ram Families!
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and settling in to your Labor Day weekend! As a freindly reminder, there is NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day holiday. It was another busy week filled with learning and laughter as we held our Adventure Zone fundraiser assembly on Monday, hosted our Back to School Night on Wednesday, TPMS runners began Cross Country practice, and all students completed their iReady diagnostic testing. It was another great week to be a Ram!
THANK YOU to all of our Ram parents who were able to attend our annual Back to School Night this past Wednesday. I hope you left feeling informed about our school, connected to your students' teachers, and excited about the school year ahead! It was great getting to see so many parents on campus and feel their excitement as they met their students' teachers and heard about all of the amazing things students will be learning in their classes this year. Please feel free to reach out with any thoughts on how we can improve the evening.
Makeup iReady diagnostic testing finished up for the fall testing window except for a handful of students. A BIG THANK YOU to all of our students for giving this fall testing their best effort, and to our parents for your support in getting students to school on time, with Chromebooks charged, and prepared for the school day! We look forward to celebrating our students' growth on these diagnostic exams after the winter testing window in January.
Congratulations and Thank You to Sarah McCracken, our TPMS parent who was our only volunteer for the School Site Council this year. I'm incredibly excited to welcome Sarah back to our Council, as she is an amazing candidate with prior SSC experience, in addition to being an elementary teacher at Midland Elementary School. Sarah brings a wealth of experience, an educator's perspective, and a collaborative spirit to our SSC - we are lucky to have her!

With Hope, The Amber Craig Foundation - Suicide Prevention
Our 7th and 8th grade students will take part in an important and engaging presentation by With Hope, The Amber Craig Foundation focusing on suicide prevention during their PE class on Thursday, September 17th and Friday, September 18th. The purpose of the presentation is to educate, equip, and empower students regarding suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Research shows that suicide is preventable through education and awareness. Patti Ferraro from With Hope will provide students with facts about suicide, alert them to warning signs related to suicide, and provide them with information about how to seek help for themselves or others. This workshop is approximately 45 minutes in length during your student’s PE class. Our counselors, mental health therapist, student services specialist, and school psychologists will be available to assist students who need additional support during and after the presentation.
To help families make an educated decision on whether this student presentation is appropriate for your student, we encourage you to review the information on the With Hope, The Amber Craig Memorial Foundation website and to attend the parent/guardian workshop hosted by With Hope on Wednesday, September 16th from 5-6pm via Microsoft Teams.
The Twin Peaks staff will take part in a presentation during professional time the morning of Wednesday, September 16th.
If you do NOT give permission for your student to attend the presentation, please email Nicole Hunting, Principal Mills' assistant, at nhunting@powayusd.com by Monday, September 14th. Please make sure to include your student’s name in your email.
The presentations are possible due to the generous support of the Twin Peaks PTSA and Foundation.
Please contact your student's counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Counseling

Bike and eBike Information
As the new school year begins, many students will be riding bicycles, e-bikes, skateboards, and scooters to school. To give everyone time to transition, all students may park on campus without a permit through August 31st. Beginning Tuesday, September 1st, a valid permit will be mandatory.
Safety, Walk Zones & Parking
- State Helmet Law (CA VC 21212): All riders under 18 must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet at all times when riding any vehicle.
- Mandatory Walk Zones: Safety protocols begin at the intersection of Twin Peaks Rd. and Tierra Bonita. Students must walk or carry their vehicles in all areas in front of Twin Peaks Middle School, Tierra Bonita Elementary, in our parking lot, and anywhere on campus. Riding on walkways or in parking lots is strictly prohibited.
- Designated Bike Parking: All vehicles must be parked in the designated bike area, located through the gate to the far right of campus as you face the school.
- Securing Vehicles & Lock Advice: TPMS is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen property. We strongly encourage students to use heavy-duty U-locks—especially for e-bikes—as cable locks are easily cut.
Vehicle Restrictions & Prohibited Vehicles
- Prohibited Vehicles: E-scooters and motorized scooters are strictly prohibited for middle schoolers under Poway law and CA Vehicle Code (which require a valid driver’s license to operate).
- Allowed E-Bikes: Only Class 1 (pedal-assist) and Class 2 (throttle-assisted) e-bikes capped at a maximum motorized speed of 20 mph are allowed on campus.
- Banned E-Bikes: Class 3 e-bikes (speeds up to 28 mph) are illegal for anyone under 16 and are strictly banned. Modified "e-motos" or dirt bikes are also banned. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department (Poway Station) will conduct random sweeps throughout the year; unpermitted or illegal bikes are subject to impound.
How to Obtain a Permit
- Bicycles, Skateboards & Push Scooters: Register for a standard TPMS permit via the "Parent" section of the school website.
- E-Bike Permits (Separate Steps): Go to the "Parent" section on the TPMS website to complete the following:
- Watch the mandatory PUSD safety video with your student.
- Submit the official PUSD Request Form to the Assistant Principal’s office.
- Permanently affix the approved permit sticker to the e-bike frame.

📚 Give a Book, Grow a Reader! 🌱
This year, we're excited to launch our Give a Book, Grow a Reader! campaign to help build an even stronger school library for our middle school students.
We invite each family to donate one new book to our library. Every book added to our shelves opens the door to new adventures, fresh perspectives, and lifelong learning.
A vibrant library does more than provide books—it creates opportunities for students to explore their interests, develop empathy, strengthen literacy skills, and experience the joy of reading for pleasure. Together, we can foster a school culture where reading is celebrated, curiosity is encouraged, and every student can find a book that speaks to them.
Thank you for helping us grow our library, inspire our readers, and make a lasting difference—one book at a time!
TPMS is a Phone Free Zone
Please Review our Electronic Devices Policy!
This is a friendly reminder that TPMS is a phone free school between the hours of 8:30am - 3:05pm. Students must keep their devices in their backpacks during school hours to support our learning centered classrooms.
Phones and electronic devices can be confiscated by school staff for repeated violations of our electronic devices policy. Please review page 14 in the student planner (LINKED HERE) for more information on our school's electronic devices policy. Parents - please review the appropriate use of cell phones and our school's policy with your student to avoid having to come in and pick up their phone after school.
