News from Principal Knoebel
Dear Centennial Families,
At Centennial Elementary, strong partnerships with our families are at the heart of everything we do. Parent/Teacher conferences are a wonderful opportunity to strengthen this partnership. Conferences provide a chance to check in on your child’s academic growth, social-emotional development, and classroom engagement, as well as collaborate on how we can best support your student together this year. Every child’s journey matters, and we ask for your help in helping us reach our goal to interact with 100% of our families next week during conferences!
Scheduling Information:
Online conference sign-ups are now closed. If you have not yet scheduled a time to meet, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher as soon as possible so we can get your meeting on the conference schedule.
Making the Most of Our Time:
Each conference is set for 15 minutes, and most teachers are scheduled back-to-back throughout the evening. To ensure every family receives their full dedicated time, please arrive promptly. If you happen to run late, we may not be able to accommodate your in-person slot that evening, but we will gladly arrange a follow-up phone conference at a later date.
Thank you for your partnership, dedication, and support in helping us connect with every single family. We look forward to seeing you next week at conferences!
Warmly,
Peter Knoebel
Principal

Indigenous Peoples' Day
This week our students took part in a special Indigenous Peoples’ Day learning experience centered around the tradition of the Winter Count, a way Native communities have historically recorded important memories and events through pictures and symbols. Together, students will reflect on meaningful moments from their own lives, learn about the value of family stories and traditions, and practice listening respectfully as classmates share their experiences.
Each student will create a personal Winter Count symbol representing a special memory from the past year, which will become part of a collaborative class display. We look forward to celebrating the unique stories, experiences, and backgrounds that make our school community so special.

CENTENNIAL FORWARD: Two questions on the ballot
Centennial’s official referendum notice with ballot language and tax information arrived in homes last week. As you review it, here are answers to two questions about the needs behind the proposals.
Special Election
Question 1 FAQ: How do inflation and unfunded requirements affect the operating budget?
Historically, state funding for schools has not kept pace with inflation. When funding grows more slowly than costs, school dollars purchase less. Requirements that do not come with enough funding to cover their costs also put pressure on the operating budget. These pressures help explain why Centennial is proposing an operating levy to maintain teachers, programs, student services and reasonable class sizes.
Question 2 FAQ: Why can’t existing maintenance funds cover the proposed improvements?
Existing resources support ongoing maintenance, but they cannot cover the full scale of the major repairs, replacements and renovations identified through long-range planning. Question 2 would provide funding for those proposed facility improvements..
Voters will decide each question separately on November 3.

The video provides an explanation of both questions on the ballot and what each would support.
