Dear Dr. Green Elementary Families,
Welcome to March and the spring season! I hope you are looking forward to some well-deserved rest and enjoyable time with your family in the weeks ahead.
This month, our campus activities are centered on preparation for the STAAR assessments in reading, math, and science. Over the past two years, our students have made tremendous academic progress, and our school is currently rated a C+. Our goal this year is to raise that rating to a B+ or higher. Achieving this goal requires intentional teaching, focused learning, and strong collaboration—and that is exactly what is happening across our campus.
Based on results from the recent STAAR Interim Assessments in reading, math, and science, our teachers are providing targeted instruction and strengthened interventions to meet students’ individual needs. With a clear plan, high expectations, and a shared commitment to excellence, we are preparing our students for a successful testing season in April.
During the week of March 9–13, we will host our Spring Intersession program. This week is designed to provide strong, targeted interventions for students in grades 3–5, as outlined in the schedule below. Teachers will follow specific participation criteria and will send a permission slip home for students who qualify to attend.
Elementary Schedule
7:55–8:25-Breakfast/Arrival
8:25–11:25-Instruction
11:25–11:55-Lunch
11:55–2:55- Instruction
2:55–3:00-Dismissal
In addition to Spring Intersession, we will continue offering the following support opportunities:
-
After-School Tutoring – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Open to all grade levels.)
-
Saturday Sessions – March 28, April 11, and April 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Open to 3-5 grade student only)
-
Interventionist Support (Mrs. Sims) – K–5 students may receive 45 minutes of targeted intervention during the school day based on MAP and Interim Assessment results in reading and math.
If you are interested in having your child participate in any of these programs, please contact your child’s teacher for more information. We appreciate your partnership in supporting your child’s academic growth.
If you travel during spring break, have safe travels. If you stay home make it memorable and enjoy your little ones.
Thank you for your continued support in making Dr. Green Elementary a wonderful place to learn and grow. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any ideas, suggestions, or concerns.
Respectfully,
Guadalupe Pineda

Hello Families!
As we head into Spring Break, I want to wish you and your child a wonderful, restful week—and an amazing rest of the semester ahead! 🌷 I’m so proud of the growth our students have shown in both reading and math. With a little practice over the break, we can keep those skills strong and be ready for a great finish to the school year!
Below are some simple, effective activities you can do at home:
📚 Reading Tips for Home
1. Read Every Day (15–20 Minutes)
Let your child choose books they enjoy—comics, nonfiction, magazines, or chapter books all count!
2. Talk About What You Read
After reading, ask:
Who are the main characters?
What was the problem in the story?
What was your favorite part and why?
What do you think will happen next?
3. Practice Fluency
Have your child reread a short passage to build smoothness and confidence. Try reading it once together, then independently.
4. Build Vocabulary
When you come across a new word:
Talk about what it means.
Use it in a sentence.
Look for it again during the week.
5. Make Reading Real-Life
Read recipes, instructions, menus, road signs, or grocery lists together. Reading is everywhere!
➕ Math Tips for Home
1. Practice Basic Facts (5–10 Minutes Daily)
Quick practice with addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts helps build math confidence.
2. Use Math in Everyday Activities
Cooking: Measure ingredients and talk about fractions.
Shopping: Add prices, estimate totals, compare costs.
Time: Practice reading clocks and calculating elapsed time.
3. Play Math Games
Card games, board games, or simple dice games help strengthen number sense in a fun way.
4. Talk Through Problem Solving
When solving a word problem, ask:
What is the question asking?
What information do we know?
What strategy can we use?
5. Encourage a Growth Mindset
Remind your child: “Mistakes help our brains grow!” Praise effort and perseverance.
Thank you for your continued support at home. Working together makes such a difference! I’m excited to see all the progress our students will make during the rest of this semester.
Have a safe, fun, and refreshing Spring Break! 🌸

🍀 Finding the “Luck” in Numbers! 🍀
Dear Families,
St. Patrick’s Day is a great time to add a little luck (and a lot of learning) to math! This month, we’re exploring fun math activities that are themed around rainbows, leprechauns, pots of gold, and shamrocks. Below you’ll find links to free online activities and printable resources you can enjoy together at home.
📲 Online Math Activities & Resources
🎲 Lucky Leprechaun Factors Game (Free Printable)
Kids in upper elementary will enjoy this fun board game to practice identifying factors. Print it out and play as a family!

🧠 Hands-On & Printable Ideas (No Screen Needed!)
🍬 Rainbow Patterns & Counting
Use colorful cereal (like Lucky Charms) to count, sort, graph, or even practice fractions and percentages.
📊 Pot of Gold Money Math
Have your child count coins to make a target amount (like 25¢ or $1.00). Challenge them to find as many combinations as possible!
📏 Number Lines & Measurement
Create a rainbow number line on paper. Let students hop, add, subtract, or measure distances between “clovers.”
📅 This Month’s Math Goals
✔️ Build fluency with addition & multiplication
✔️ Practice counting & patterns using festive themes
✔️ Explore factors, fractions, and measurement
✔️ Have fun playing math games together!
🌈 Family Math Challenge
If you had to share a pot of gold worth $1.00 using real coins, how many ways can you make that amount? Try it with a sibling or family member and compare answers!
Thank you for being such strong partners in your child’s learning. We hope these activities make math feel as exciting as finding a lucky four-leaf clover! 🍀

The Core Value for March is: Humility- Putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.
SAY IT:
Humility: Putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve
KNOW IT:
ASK A GROWN-UP:
• Tell me about a person you know who has shown humility.
• What are some ways you have tried to put others first in your life?
ASK A KID:
• Can you think of any of your classmates who demonstrate humility?
• What are some ways you can show humility at home or at school?
SEE IT:
There are many great examples of people who have displayed humility throughout history.
One great example is a lady named Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a Catholic nun
who dedicated her life to serving “the poorest of the poor” in Calcutta, India. Not only
did she personally serve this community, she also founded the Missionaries of Charity and
empowered many others to serve with humility, as well.
Watch this short biography about Mother Teresa and learn more about how she put others
first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzH13X88kbM
BE IT:
Talk about some other great leaders who showed humility by putting others first. Set a family
goal to do something in the community to help someone in need. Reach out to a local nonprofit
organization or the school counselor to find out how your family can serve others in
need and demonstrate humility.
