Colonial Park Weekly News
October 5 - October 9
Principal's Note
Dear Colonial Park Families -
Welcome to the first full week of October!
We have a very successful and fun Back to School Picnic on Thursday. I was thrilled to see so many of our families there enjoying themselves, and ice cream truck was a big hit as always! Thank you to our PTO for planning and organizing this fun event for our community.
This week, our Data Team met with each grade level to review the Beginning of the Year data. Intervention groups were formed, and teachers began planning for small groups within their classrooms during our Professional Development afternoon. On Friday, Early Literacy Letters were sent home to parents and caregivers of students whose scores fell in intensive intervention. Letters outlined who would be the provider of the intervention, as well as the frequency of intervention. Students will be progress monitored every two weeks, and our Data Team will meet again in approximately six weeks to review data and adjust groups if needed.
We can't wait for Picture Day on Thursday! We are excited to welcome back Patrik Kisucky, owner of School Art Studio and former Colonial Park parent. For more information, please visit the link below. I am also attaching package and pricing information to this newsletter.

Half-A-Million Minute Reading Challenge - September Update!
The September results are in...AND everyone will just have to wait for our September reading superstars until it is announced tomorrow in school!
I will share that we have earned our first schoolwide prize for reading over 100,000 minutes! With a total of 105,575 minutes, our students will be enjoying a popsicle party on October 22, which is also the date of our next Goldie Gathering. During the Gathering, we will spotlight our September top class and reading superstars, so it's the perfect day for it.
REMINDERS FOR OCTOBER
- Every student who reads for at least 200 minutes in October will be entered in a drawing to win a pass to Xtreme Craze in Malden for them and 4 friends.
- The next school-wide reward is a school-wide pajama day when the students have read for 200k minutes.
- Every minute counts! Reading, being read to, and audiobooks all count! And don't forget about the bonus challenges!
Fourth Grade Kindness Crew
This year, we are continuing with our Fourth Grade Kindness Crew. We began our Kindness Crew last year, and it was wonderful to see our fourth graders taking on a leadership role in our school. On Friday, Mrs. McCarthy visited the classrooms of Mrs. Hahesy and Ms. Leydon to talk about our Kindness Crew, and she gave interested students applications to complete if they are interested.
We can't wait to get started!
