Collaborative Lab
Students passing through the doors of our campus’ beautiful Pennington Building can expect to be kept busy in their science classes, challenged to explore an array of layered science concepts throughout middle school and high school, developing authentic laboratory investigation skills along the way. To set the tone and expectations for future lab experiences, and for the first time ever, all ninth-grade Biology students conducted the same lab procedure to explore the architecture of experimental design. Using small radish seedlings expertly germinated by Mrs. Harrison for their test subjects, and led through analytical questions designed by Ms. Benfield, the Biology students carefully collected data from which to draw conclusions about the effects of moving air on plant transpiration. Though more than one seedling had to suffer for science, all ninth graders came out with a foundational lab experience upon which to grow.
Science Rocks
In a recent fourth-grade science experiment, students heated a marble until it cracked to model how intense heat and pressure inside the Earth affect rocks. Just as the marble eventually fractured, the Earth’s crust can break and shift when magma builds up beneath the surface. This movement of rock layers demonstrates how tectonic plates shift, creating stress that is released as powerful earthquakes. The simple demonstration helped fourth graders see how heat energy deep underground drives the dynamic forces that shape our planet.

Early Christmas
According to Buddy the Elf, "the best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loudly for all to hear!" While it may not be Christmas, yet, members of our sixth and seventh grade choral rotation believe it's never too early to start spreading Christmas cheer. Choral members spent the week learning various Christmas favorites, and eagerly sang to receptive audiences across campus! It was really a magical time!
Welcome Back!
GWA alumni - join us before the big game for our Homecoming Tailgate — and be sure to stop by the Alumni Tent (next to the track), where you can reconnect with old friends and fellow Bulldogs!

Become a Swim Dawg!
Hello to all our new Swim Families and welcome back to all our returning Swim Families! We are happy to announce that the start of our new swim season begins Oct. 20. We will host a parent meeting for our returning swimmers and our new recruits on Sept. 24 in the school cafeteria at 6 p.m. We will also be doing a fitting for suits at that time. We have new coaches this year, and we are very excited to introduce ourselves and get started. All the details will be covered at the meeting, but as a little teaser, our Varsity will be practicing at the new GA Piedmont YMCA before school; our middle school will be practicing at Walton 24 after school. Come on in the water is fine, see where you fit in!
