Good sleep is essential for our health and emotional well-being. Adolescents who do not get enough sleep have a higher risk of obesity, diabetes, injuries, poor mental health, and problems with attention and behavior. Teens need 8-10 hours of sleep per day. About 7 out of 10 (72.7%) teens do not get enough sleep on school nights which can impact their academic performance.

How to improve your sleep:

  • Stick to a consistent routine- go to bed and wake up at the same time every day
  • Avoid caffeine later in the day
  • Avoid napping
  • Avoid blue light and technology 1 hour prior to bedtime
  • Use bed only for sleep (not homework, reading, or other activities)
  • Make your bedroom comfortable- cool, dark, and quiet
