What a week at Preston! Our 6th grade students spent a day in nature, immersed in learning and exploration, making connections beyond the walls of the classroom. Meanwhile, Science was busy with dissections, our Outdoor Education students were out riding bikes, and our Music students were putting themselves out there and submitting auditions. There is truly something happening all around Preston!

We ended the week with our annual Color Run, and what a celebration it was! More than 200 students and family members joined us for an evening filled with fun, loads of color, an obstacle course, and plenty of smiles. We even had CornDoggies food truck and Kona Ice to make the celebration even sweeter!

Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a memorable week. It was a great week to be a Preston Puma!

Honored to be your Principal

Be Part of Preston’s Science Olympiad Legacy! 🩵💜

Science Olympiad is so much more than a science competition. Students make lifelong friends, learn how to study and take tests, and explore topics in far greater depth than they typically would in a middle school classroom. They learn to work as a team, tackle difficult problems, and keep going when something doesn’t work the first time.

It is a big commitment—with big rewards. Students put in time studying, practicing, and preparing for their events. Along the way, they build confidence, discover new interests, and find friends who get just as excited about learning as they do!

With 23 events covering everything from anatomy and astronomy to cracking codes and building devices, students have plenty of ways to challenge themselves and find their strengths.

Preston has won the state championship 15 times! Our program has a proud legacy, and it is exciting to be part of it. We’re looking for curious, motivated students who are ready to work hard and help write the next chapter.

Come learn more at our information meeting!

📅 Thursday, October 8

Students and parents are encouraged to attend. No Science Olympiad experience is needed—just a willingness to learn!

Science Olympiad Coaches! Science Olympiad Coaches!

We are looking for Division B Science Olympiad coaches at Preston Middle School! You would meet weekly with a small group of highly motivated students to help them prepare for their competition events. If you enjoy curious kids, creative challenges, and the occasional “Wait… why didn’t that work?” moment, we need you!

Have a nosy neighbor who needs something to do besides monitoring your weeds? Send them our way! We have scientific investigations that could use that level of dedication. 😂

Have a grandparent, uncle, aunt, parent, college student, coworker, or retired friend who loves science, building things, solving problems, or explaining how stuff works? They could be a great coach!

Parents make the best coaches! You already have experience answering endless questions, troubleshooting problems, and reminding kids to read the directions. That is practically the job description!

You do not need to know every branch of science. Bring your curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to help kids learn. You might even learn something yourself—and finally have an audience that appreciates your very specific knowledge!

  • Learn about Science Olympiad:
    https://www.soinc.org/participants/discover-science-olympiad

  • Explore Division B events:
    https://soinc.org/events/2027-division-b-events

Interested? Contact Mrs. Loyd at Preston, or send this to someone who would make a great coach! Our kids are amazing and want to learn. Help us give them the coaches they deserve! 🩵💜

SRO Corner SRO Corner

Dear Poudre School District Families,

This month, the School Resource Officer team would like to speak to you about the safety of E-Bike/E-Motor transportation. There have been several incidents involving students and children in our community. We believe parent awareness around the safety and laws regarding these modes of transportation is the first step in ensuring our children are safe.

Below is a graphic of what is and is not allowed when it comes to electronic modes of transportation. We would like to note, any device classified as a low-powered scooter requires a driver’s license and insurance, and any device classified as an electric motorcycle requires a motorcycle license and insurance. In addition, any device in the class 3 E-Bike category requires the rider to be over 16 on a roadway.

There are several questions when it comes to these modes of transportation. The best advice we have is to research and ask questions BEFORE purchasing one for your children.

Have a great month,

SRO Meg Savage

Attendance Matters! Attendance Matters!

Our school is a community where your presence matters! We strive to create a welcoming and engaging environment where you can feel valued and supported. Your contributions are important, and you belong in PSD. We want to help you be at school every day, so reach out if you are facing barriers to attendance.

Being at school all day and being on time are important habits. Students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful, and on track to graduate with options. If there are barriers keeping you from regular and timely attendance, we’re here to help.

FACT: Students who miss fewer than 2 days in September continue to average fewer than 2 days absent each month. We are here to partner with you in setting and reaching your attendance goals. Let us know how we can help!

When you login to ParentVUE or StudentVUE, it is easy to see your attendance summary. Schedule a time every month to check this attendance summary. Be informed and set your goals for attendance.

Wednesdays During Both Lunches Beginning September 16th

One of the fun and easy ways parents can help at Preston is through our Spirit Cart. The Preston Parent Association (PPA) sponsors the cart. We sell little toys, gum, squishies, etc. The kids love it. This year the PPA is going to try something new and have the cart open every wednesday. We hope that consistency will make it easier for kids to remember that it's open. That means we need more volunteers! Please reach out to PPA President Krista if you have any questions at ppopreston@gmail.com.

Please bring in snacks over the next few weeks. Sodas, chocolates and individually wrapped snacks are all welcome. Just leave them with the office. Thank you!

Join the Preston Parent Association (PPA)

The Preston Parent Association is an easy way for parents to help our awesome school and build community with one another. Our meetings are all on zoom, on the second Wednesday of the month from 7-8pm. They are not required, but we would love to have many of you there.

Lots of our members are full time working parents and we make it as easy as possible to participate. In addition to the monthly meetings we have fun community events planned and several ways parents can volunteer with the school. To join, simply fill out the form at the link below and venmo a suggested donation of $10. Don't have venmo? Leave a check made out to Preston Parent Association in our mailbox at the school.
