The Scooper Cheer Team took first place with a score of 222. St Thomas More was second with a 191.5 and Douglas placed third with a 190.5. Winning Grand Champion Dance was Spearfish with a 438. The Spartans won the Pom and Jazz categories and Hot Springs claimed the Hop Hop Competition. The Bison placed second in the overall standings with Belle Fourche finishing in third.
BHSU EDUCATORS RISING EXPO
Five SBHS students participated in the Educators Rising Expo at BHSU on October 16: Jocelyn Wolkenhauer (11), Grace Hill (12), Paige Gillespie (12), Avery Marler (12), and Emerson Gardner (12).
In South Dakota we are on a mission to help our schools grow their own educators. National research suggests a shortage of 112,000 teachers for the 2020-21 school year. These shortages are particularly concerning for teachers of color.
Learning Expos are built to experience what it means to be an educator and how our state and private schools are raising up the next generation of educators. Engage in hands-on activities, attend breakout sessions and meet with students and faculty.
PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
Juniors, the Preliminary SAT, also known as the PSAT/NMSQT® (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), is a practice version of the SAT exam. If you earn a high score on the PSAT your junior year, you could qualify to receive a National Merit Scholarship—$180 million dollars in merit scholarships are awarded to students each year. The PSAT is 2 hours and 45 minutes long and tests your skills in reading, writing, and math. Unlike the SAT, the highest score possible on the PSAT is 1520. The test will be given at SBHS on Wednesday, October 23rd at 8:00 AM in room 100. The cost of the test is $18 and must be paid before the test date. Please signup in the Student Services/Counseling Office.
