GPA Exempt Tile GPA Exempt Tile

The GPA exempt tile is now open in MyKaty Cloud.

Students can take certain elective courses without having the grade affect their GPA, but there are several requirements.

You must:

Be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade.
Have at least a 4.0 GPA.
Have completed all required course prerequisites.
For an elective, have passed the prerequisite course for that elective.
Be in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th full year of continuous enrollment in the same program.
Maintain a passing average in the GPA-exempt course.

Submit the application through the GPA Exempt tile in MyKaty Cloud.
Get approval from your school counselor.

Credit limit:
You can earn up to 3 total GPA-exempt credits during your entire high-school career.

Important dates:
Opened: August 12, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Deadline: September 18, 2026 at 11:59 PM

So, if students are eligible, they still have time to apply.

One important distinction: GPA-exempt does not mean the course doesn't matter. They still have to pass the course and maintain a passing average; the main benefit is that the 4.0 course is excluded from the GPA calculation.

There is an attached information packet that will list all eligible GPA Exempt courses and directions on how to apply through the GPA Exempt tile.

School Pictures School Pictures

School pictures for students in grades 9–11 were taken this week during English classes. Students will receive a hard-copy proof of their photos through their English teacher once the images have been processed.

Ordering information will be included with the proof package. Please note that school pictures could not be pre-ordered. Families will have the opportunity to view the proofs before deciding whether to place an order.

Students in grades 9–11 who missed school pictures will have an opportunity to be photographed on October 21, our official make-up picture day.

Seniors who still need to take their yearbook photo may do so on November 3, the next Senior Photo Day. Information and a sign-up link to reserve a senior photo appointment will be sent out in October.

Chromebooks Chromebooks

Parents/Students,

It is important students charge their Chromebooks each night and bring their charger with them daily to school. The Chromebook and charger are apart of their daily supplies and students are expected to have them for each class.

Personal Communication Devices Personal Communication Devices

As part of our commitment to maintaining a focused learning environment, per TEA Code 37.082 students are not permitted to have personal communication devices during the instructional school day. Devices must be stored in the students backpack as designated by Katy ISD. A procedure change this year for Jordan High School is that once a students device has been confiscated due to their second device infraction or more, a parent or guardian must come to the campus the next day to retrieve the device. Please note that device pickup is available between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation and helping students stay engaged in learning.

Personal Communication Devices Includes, but are not limited to: Cell phones, personal laptops, iPads, air pods, headphones, META GLASSES, smart watches & rings, gaming devices, any device that can communicate, etc.

Meta Glasses are not allowed, even if they are prescription glasses. Students will need to have a pair of prescription glasses that do not violate the Personal Communication Device Law.

Parking Lot Safety Parking Lot Safety

Parents/Guardians,

Many of our students ride bicycles, scooters, or electric bikes to school, and we want to emphasize the importance of discussing parking lot safety with them.

While on school property, students should stay on the sidewalks, travel at a minimal speed, and avoid cutting through the parking lot. During high-traffic times—such as arrival and dismissal—students should walk their bicycles, scooters, or electric bikes on the sidewalks until they are safely past areas with pedestrian and staff traffic.

Please be aware that any vehicle not allowed on school property could result in disciplinarian actions as stated in the Katy ISD Code of Conduct.

For families who drop off or pick up students, as well as student drivers, please be extra cautious and watch for students walking or riding.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders:

  • Students should only be dropped off at the front or back of the school.
  • Students are not allowed to be dropped off in the staff parking lot or the bus driveway. Please stay out of this area for arrival and dismissal to make way for our buses.
  • Refer to the parking lot map for designated drop-off and pick-up areas.

Late Arrival Students

  • If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will need to walk around to the front of the building to enter the campus.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain a safe environment for all students, staff, and families.

Bus Information Bus Information

Parents/Guardians,

Please register your student in SMART tag to ensure they are provided with a Route number prior to the start of the school year. To register, parents will need to download the SMART tag app.

As a reminder, students will need to know their ROUTE # as it will not change, while a bus number changes from time to time. Please communicate this with your student and have them save their ROUTE # in their phone. They will need to know their ROUTE # for the first day of school.

AI in the Classroom AI in the Classroom

Below you will find the JHS AI Use Categories. These categories are designed to help teachers clearly communicate expectations for the appropriate use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in assignments and projects.

The purpose of this framework is to support the responsible and ethical use of AI while ensuring that students continue to engage in the critical thinking, problem-solving, and learning processes that are essential for mastering course content. By identifying the appropriate AI Use Category for each assignment, teachers can provide clear guidance on when and how AI tools may be used.

Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the different categories. Teachers will identify the applicable AI Use Category for assignments and projects throughout the school year. Unless otherwise specified by the teacher, the default expectation is that AI may not be used.

School Meal Prices School Meal Prices

Dear Katy ISD Parents/Guardians and Staff,

As the 2026 – 2027 school year approaches, we'd like to remind you of an upcoming change to school meal prices.

In response to federal regulations and economic impacts, breakfast and lunch prices will increase beginning this school year. While these adjustments are necessary to help us continue providing high-quality, nutritious meals for our students, we understand that any increase can affect a family's budget. That's why we've worked hard to keep meal prices as affordable as possible. In fact, this is the District’s first meal price increase in more than 10 years.

Beginning with the 2026 – 2027 school year:

  1. Breakfast at all campuses will increase from $1.25 to $1.50.
  2. Elementary lunch will increase from $2.25 to $2.75.
  3. Junior high and high school lunch will increase from $2.75 to $3.25.

Please note that these changes do not affect Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) campuses. Students at participating CEP campuses will continue to receive free breakfast and lunch throughout the school year.

Thank you for your understanding and for allowing us to serve your children each day. We remain committed to providing nutritious, high-quality meals that help students learn, grow and thrive.
