The Loon Song
Our first week of academics is in the books.
Math started us off looking at place value and the different forms of expressing numbers. Ask your Loon about what place value they reached and the different expressed forms of numbers (written, standard and expanded).
In ELA we looked at the structure of a short story. Your Loons were able to read some favorites such as Pete the Cat, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and even A Pocket for Corduroy. Ask your Loons about this assignment and what the different parts of a short story are that we covered.
In Science, your Loons discussed water on earth including the different types and the states that they are in. Ask your Loons about the visual that they were given, and have them give you examples of the different states.
For a nature connection, we discussed the different uses of wood in our area and how to use tools appropriately, as well as what taking care of our environment looks like. Your Loons worked together to create log benches around the Loons' fire pit.
Wednesday STEM day took us outside to build rain catchers! We will be measuring rain collection every Wednesday until things start to freeze. Take time to do some rain dances for us!
Finally, in geography we discussed what geography is, the two different types of geography (physical and cultural) and took time to observe different types of maps. Ask your Loons why learning about geography is important.
Next week is looking to be cooler in the mornings. Have your Loons prepared for the change in temperatures with longer layers in the morning and a change of clothes that may be shorter for the afternoons.
Have a wonderful weekend!
