You’re Invited to a Press Conference on Preventing Distracted Driving
Students and the community are invited to join the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT), West Bend Police Department, and the West Bend Schools on Tuesday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at East and West High Schools for a press conference to promote WisDOT’s Buckle Up Phone Down campaign to prevent distracted driving.
The Wisconsin DOT is introducing Buckle Up, Phone Down because crashes, injuries, and deaths related to distracted driving and seat belt use are preventable. During the press conference, people will be asked to take a pledge to always wear seat belts and never use a phone while driving.
The event is on the eve of National Distracted Driving Month. During April, a wrecked car will be on display in front of the high schools to draw attention to the importance of buckling up and keeping the phone down.
The press conference is in the front parking lot (along Decorah Road) or moved to the West Cafeteria in the event of inclement weather (enter in the West main entrance).
Silverbrook Principal Change for Next School Year
Lance Roell, principal of Silverbrook Intermediate School, has accepted a leadership position at a different school district. He will begin his new role on July 1. Mr. Roell attended West Bend Schools as a student and has been at Silverbrook for 18 years. During his tenure, he led Silverbrook through a significant transition from a 6-8 middle school to a 5-6 intermediate school.
Andy Kasik, the former principal of McLane Elementary and current assistant principal at Silverbrook, will serve as principal of Silverbrook for the 2026-2027 school year, when it will have sixth grade only. In 2027-2028, the school will transition to a K-5 elementary school.
New Website will be More Mobile Friendly
Similar to the construction on a number of our buildings, the West Bend School District is constructing new websites for the district and all schools. These new websites will be functioning on March 31, although a little more construction is needed to get all links and design in place.
