Message From Our Principal
West Families,
Fall weather has finally arrived in West Michigan. It’s beautiful to see the trees changing colors and the students enjoying the fresh crisp air during recess and outdoor learning. Please dress your child in layers as the temperatures fluctuate throughout the day (and have them check the lost and found as we have a lot of sweatshirts that found this home during last week’s warmer weather).
Walkathon
Thank you to all who participated in one or our PTC’s bigger fundraisers for the school year. We raised over $5000 and many staff, including myself, got pied in the face for every $50 raised. Your enthusiasm and support is seen and felt. If you would like to support our PTC with a donation, please reach out to them directly at westoakviewpto@gmail.com. Every dollar given is greatly appreciated and directly goes back to our wonderful staff and students!
Title I
We are pleased to share the Title I slideshow and accompanying "Title I Parent Compact letter" with you this weekend. All Northview elementary buildings qualify for schoolwide Title I services, providing us with federal levels funds to offer events, additional staffing, and information that promote and support reading for all learners and their families. Please watch the slideshow created by our Elementary Literacy Specialists to understand all the different components of Title I offerings.
In addition, please check your child's Friday folder for the Title I Parent Compact letter. The items in the letter reflect the attributes and skills that we - teachers, parents, and students - collectively agree to carry out in support of your child's education and everyday learning experience. As a family, please review the student and parent portions of the compact and check off each as you go, then sign. We welcome parent/guardian comments and feedback, also! Students or parents should then return their signed document to your child's teacher by October 30. Feel free to give it to your teacher at conferences. Teachers will review the parent and student signatures, check and sign their portion, and turn these into our school offices.
Not only do these compacts help promote stellar communication, partnership, and commitments between students, families, and teachers, we also need to demonstrate our efforts to obtain and collect these documents in order to continue receiving Title I funding and services. So thank you for your support and assistance with this process!
Parent Teacher Conferences
We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday or Wednesday for your scheduled conferences. Some reminders as you prepare for these:
Please arrive promptly at your appointed time.
One conference spot is available per child. If parents/guardians live separately, please collaborate with a time that works best for all. Video conference is available upon request (at the same time as the conference) if you wish to not be in the same room.
Please leave travel time between scheduling sibling conferences so you get the full 10 minutes for each child.
UA teachers will be available on a drop in basis. They may request a time to meet with you.
If you need an additional conference with any of our specialists please email directly.
Have a wonderful weekend and see you next week at Parent Teacher conferences!

Volunteer Consent Form
Please take a quick minute to fill out this Volunteer Constant form . This is required for anyone who wants to attend a field trip, help with popping popcorn, working at the school store etc. Once the form is filled out it does take 5-7 business days to process, so make sure to fill it out at least a 7 days in advance.
Nurse's Corner
💊If your student needs medication at school, the NV medication permission form must be completed. Students cannot bring in the medication; a parent/guardian must bring it in with the proper paperwork and the medication in the original container. (printable med form below)
💉 Vaccine-preventable diseases such as pertussis (whooping cough) and measles are commonly thought to be a thing of the past. Unfortunately, this is not true, and the need to immunize on time with all recommended vaccines continues to persist. Today, there are many safe and effective vaccines to protect against vaccine preventable diseases.* Please consult with your primary health care provider for recommendations of any illness, fever, or vaccines. *
🤧 Students should stay home from school if they have a fever (temperature above 100.4 F) by any method and a change in behavior or other signs and symptoms (such as a sore throat, rash, vomiting or diarrhea). Students may return to school when fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medications.
🧼Continue to teach good hygiene at home, hand washing before/after meals and after using the restroom, coughing/sneezing into their elbow, showering/bathing frequently, using /or introducing deodorant, clean clothing especially underwear and socks, and remind your students to dress for weather.
📵Parents/Guardians it is okay to give tough love by limiting screen time especially around bedtime.
You may receive a letter from the KCHD that your student did not pass a vision screening, and a follow-up vision exam is recommended. If you do not have a vision clinic, please call:
