Unit 1: Scaled Copies

In this unit, students learn to understand and use the terms “scaled copy,” “to scale,” “scale factor,” “scale drawing,” and “scale,” and recognize when two pictures or plane figures are or are not scaled copies of each other. They use tables to reason about measurements in scaled copies, and recognize that angle measures are preserved in scaled copies, but lengths are scaled by a scale factor and areas by the square of the scale factor. They make, interpret, and reason about scale drawings. These include maps and floor plans that have scales with and without units.

OUR CLASS WILL ASK THESE QUESTIONS:

▪ How does society influence identity and experience?

▪ What do The Canterbury Tales reveal about identity and storytelling?

▪ What elements make for an engaging historical narrative?

U.S. History Beginnings U.S. History Beginnings

In our first history lesson, we will explore how the first peoples may have reached the Americas, including theories about migration. We will examine how some groups developed agriculture, which allowed them to build more complex societies. We will also look at the beliefs and origin stories of Native American peoples, gaining insight into how they understood their beginnings and the world around them. The lesson will cover the rise of Native American civilizations in Mesoamerica and North America, and highlight the diverse cultures and lifestyles of Native peoples living across the continent when Europeans arrived.
