UPDATES ON ATTENDANCE LAWS
September is Attendance Awareness Month, and we want to say something simple: every day matters—and we know some days are genuinely hard.
Students who attend consistently are more likely to succeed, not because of any one lesson, but because school is cumulative. Showing up is a big part of it.
Recent updates to Ohio attendance law have also changed how schools address absences. The accompanying graphics explain important terms—including excused and unexcused absences, chronic absence and habitual truancy—and show what families can expect as missed hours add up.
The key distinction: all missed instructional time, whether excused or unexcused, counts toward chronic absence. Habitual truancy is based only on unexcused hours. Otsego begins notifying families at 35 total absence hours so we can communicate and offer support early.
If your child will be absent, please call (419) 823-4381. It takes a minute and saves everyone a phone call.
If getting your child to school has become a real struggle—transportation, illness, anxiety or anything else—please reach out before it becomes a bigger problem. Our counselors and building secretaries would much rather help early. That is genuinely what they are here for.
Parents, please be sure to review the above listed expectations and social etiquettes with your students. If any any point student safety is in question or an NBC League rule is not followed, students will be given a warning.
If the behavior persists, parents will be called and the student(s) will be required to either sit with their parent/guardian for the remainder of the game OR they will be removed from the game entirely.
Let’s bring the energy as we cheer on our Knights! Please remember to keep our student section positive, respectful, and supportive of our team and school. Let’s show what Otsego pride looks like!

SENIOR PORTRAITS
Save the Date! Senior Portraits will take place on Thursday, October 22nd in the auditorium from 7:00 am - 11:00 am. Not only will this portrait be used in the yearbook, but families will have the opportunity to order their student's senior portrait.
After each student is photographed, they’re sent home with their QR code and they can see their pictures in a few days once photos are uploaded. They can also select their yearbook photo. If a student does not log on and select their yearbook photo, the program just pulls the first photo in their run.
Any student unable to make it for the in-school day can book a free yearbook session at our studio. Easiest way to do this is at impulsestudio.net. Students who want a senior portrait must do this by Friday, December 18th, 2026.
